In “What Corporate America Can’t Build: A Sentence”, Sam Dillon uses his rhetorical choices to effectively inform the reader of the problems improper grammar and punctuation which, financially and internally, damage modern corporations’ efficiency. The main audience for Sam Dillon’s article are readers who interested about the effect which people who do not use proper English in letters have on the businesses that they may work for. Another audience that Sam Dillon’s article would appeal to would be employers who may or may not be researching ways to improve efficiency among their work environment. The information given by Sam Dillon informs that corporations pay great sums of money to re-educate their employees who show incompetence in writing,…
I believe in the essay by Freeman Hrabowski the one sentence that summarizes the entire essay would the statement was, “ College graduates are much more likely to be employed than those with only a high school diploma and substantially higher salaries”(260). That statement cover all the details explaining the essay because in order to be successful you must get the proper education. The appropriate education will educate you on your career to understand the accurate way to complete your job’s task.…
Adjacent to that the author shows the readers the different experiences in which he learned the lessons that made him appreciate the opportunity to go to college. I agree with the author when he talks about “Factory life has shown me what my future might have been like had I never gone to college in the first place (Braaksma, 2005).” I agree because working a real-world job can help you see how college is possibly a better path to a successful career. I feel this way because of my own experiences working at various jobs over the years. Furthermore, when the author goes deeper into his experiences by saying “All the advice and public-service announcements about the value of an education that used to sound trite now ring true (Braaksma,…

In this passage, “Spelling Matters”, Mikita Brottman argues that having spelling errors on a resume, are grounds for instant rejection. A couple of years ago Brottman was on a hiring committee when a candidate had entered the room with an unordinary resume. This candidate had experience and qualifications for the positon. However Brottman notice she had three spelling errors on her resume, one of which was her major, she thinks that the candidate is no longer suitable for the position. No one on the committee took it serious, they thought the candidate was suitable to work. Brottman had argued that if it was her, she would pay close attention to spelling due to the importance of the paper. Later on she had questioned whether someone with a PHD deserves leeway when making such a mistake. The candidate never looked bad to others, only bad to Brottman.…
I have not had writing experience since I came to the United States of America. Before coming to U.S. I graduated from high school in my country in a different system and language. After I moved to U.S. I decided to attend in a college to improve my education level. Although I passed the replacement test in Thomas Nelson Community College by writing an essay which was not much acceptable for college level, I succeeded in ENF1. ENF1 was challenging for me because of weak vocabulary and writing skills. I mostly interested in science subjects such as; math, physics, and chemistry it should be another reason I am not good in writing.…
The skills that I completed in the Writing Path Builder were: Sentence skills, The Craft of Writing, Punctuation, Mechanics, and Spelling. These are all important skills that need to be applied in everybody’s professional life. What kind of employer would want a person working for them that could not spell or form a complete punctuated sentence? Without these skills you can conclude that you will not have a high paying job with benefits.…
The fact is that you will be judged on how well you write. In the article “Watch Your Language,” Philip J Reed explains how people can tell a lot about you and your personality. Writing an application to a manager of a job can give them a first impression before you step through the door. The National Commission on Writing says that “More than ½ of all responding companies take writing skills into account in making promotion decisions.” Also, salaried employees are 300% more likely to need strong writing skills than hourly employees. When you are being hired for a job, you also need to pay attention to writing. 35.5% of respondents to a survey by National Commission on Writing the said that ⅓ of applicants to their…
The tone of the article is honest and inspirational. In the story of Andy Blevins, we learn how Andy didn’t complete college; he dropped out and he didn’t want to leave his summer job at a super market (265). Andy eventually worked his way up without a degree, making $35,000 a year with health benefits and a 401(K) plan (267). Andy’s story shows us that in some situations, not having a college education didn’t pay as good as having a college degree.…

I am writing this letter to Jeremy Rifkin’s article “A Change Of Heart About Animals.” I disagree. I don’t think we can change the way we treat animals. I think we should just let them be and have them live their own habit. If we change the way we treat animals, than they would be like humans and not themselves. They wouldn’t be just normal animals. I feel that animals should be in their own habit and not become more like humans.…

I am certainly not a strong writer and have often struggled with personal writing. Coming from a household where neither of my parents graduated high school, I found that I have partaken to push myself to be successful. I believe that I am extremely fortunate having the ability to ask for help from my professors, mentor, supervisor and colleagues. My confidence has gone up tremendously when working with clients and other professionals. I believe that I have grown as a writer and a…
How does someone fresh from school apply the skill an employer would want based off facts from the classroom rather than someone who knows what they’re doing? This quote explains the facts (Article 3 paragraph 5) “A do-or-die work ethic, unwavering persistence, and vision mean more than anything that can be taught in a classroom.” Many surveys show the basic struggles of a college student in one of most well-known sterotypes of one working in Starbucks®. In referral to this quote (Article 2 paragraph 3) “The job market is still challenging…nearly half of college graduates…have jobs that don’t require bachelor’s degree. This is quite a struggle to receive a job that can pay well for someone without many…
