The useful may be trusted to further itself, for many produce it and no one can do without it; but the beautiful must be specially encouraged, for few can present it, while yet all have need of it. Beauty does not lie in the face. It lies in the harmony between a person and his or her industry. Beauty is expression. Lucy Grealy’s book Autobiography of a Face takes a deep look at the societal stereotypes and perceptions. At the end of her book she writes “Society is no help. It tells us again and again that we can most be ourselves by acting and looking like someone else , only to leave our original faces behinds to turn in ghosts that will inevitably resent and haunt us” (pg. 222). The idea of freedom can be seen in Collection 2 of our textbook. Freedom can be seen in the speech, “I Have A Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr, when he was speaking out to everyone about his dream to have the same rights as white men. A lack of freedom can be seen throughout the short story, “The Censors” by Luisa Valenzuela, when Juan discusses about how every letter is carefully read, which is an invasion of privacy. “Reading Lolita In Tehran” by Azar Nafisi also showed a lack of freedom, when the author discusses the lack of rights that women had to put up with.…

The park in the fall is what I do when the day of work has beaten me up and spit me out. What I like best about walking in the park in the fall is the changing of the colors. Most days there is a slight breeze and it gently moves the leaves helping them fall to the ground. The leaves are mixture of reds like the sun, royal purples, orange tint and they seem to fade to brown as soon as they touch the dirt. The walkway is covered by the cracked color of the remaining pieces of crispy leaves and gray moss covered rocks. The park is very quiet except for the grey and brown ducks, quacking and fighting for food.…

But she does not want truth: what is truth to woman? From the beginning, nothing has been more alien, repugnant, and hostile to woman than truth -- her great art is the lie, her highest concern is mere appearance of beauty. Let us men confess it: we honor and love precisely this art and this instinct in women -- we who have a hard time and for our relief like to associate with beings under whose hands, eyes, and tender follies our seriousness, our gravity and profundity almost appear to us like folly. ...…

Our concept of beauty is influenced by many things. The society is the very first foundation to where we discover, realize, understand, and come to know things. The society plasters in front of our faces these people with bodies that ripples and shines like the gods; faces with prominent nose, perfectly straight teeth, protruding lips; Hair that is straight, soft and shiny and presents it to everyone as the concept of what is beautiful. Eventually, everyone that has seen that idea has perceived it in his/ her mind of what beauty exactly is. Everyone with the looks that is similar to the model eventually commits the sin vanity while the others who don’t eventually look down on their selves. We must be able to obliterate this mindset. We should keep in mind that beauty is not and never will be tangible. We should put to an end the doings of contests that determines which is the most beautiful woman, in short the beauty pageants. Because as what Vie written above, everyone and everything is beautiful.…

Beauty is confidence. Many people in the celebrity world view beauty as one’s physical appearance. They are not wrong: there is physical beauty, but people fail to realize inner beauty. Confidence has been shown in many makeover shows such as Ten Years Younger or Make Me a Supermodel to make people’s physical and inner beauty increase dramatically. Confidence allows self-esteem to heighten, and grants the person more positive thinking in their view of life. Confidence in oneself is needed to reveal the true beauty in every person.…
