‘Why?’ is a question many have pondered. Who, in their right mind, would sacrifice so much for another’s chance at freedom? Harriet faced trial after trial, forever changing the lives of those three hundred people and their generations forever. Harriet Tubman, has inspired many Americans with her fierce desire for herself and others, to be free. In fact, she said, 2“[T]here was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other.” She lived what she taught, as a true teacher should. She taught with her words and with her actions. She helped set America in the path of freedom, even if it risked her life.
During the Civil War, Harriet again, put aside her own life for others. She realized, that if the North won the war, all slaves would be free. Taking this to heart, you strove to help the cause as much as physically possible. She stayed in camps, along with the fugitives, and helped out as much as she was able.
