Nothing more than a vesicle searching for belonging. “The Journey” sublimely seizes that moment in a woman’s life where things do not go as planned. The journey is that of an unexpected struggle that impairs your future. Is it fair? No it is not, but it is reality. What we choose to do with this reality is up to us. Mary chose to try to fix her relationship with her son despite how ignorant he has become. The title symbolizes not so much of her past life to now, but what she is trying to make in the present…
Mary is six months pregnant and she doesn't know how to react to her husbands' horrible news. This was a huge surprise for her. Mary thought that it would be like any other day, with no problems. How could she last three more months being pregnant? How could she raise a baby by herself? How could Mr. Maloney leave when he knows he'll never see his child? These questions rattled through Mary's head after what her husband had told her. She drew a blank thinking about what to do. She stood up, went to go make dinner, and ignored Mr. Maloney's demmand for her to sit back down. He had not the slightest idea of what was comming for him.…
“Any Journey includes both realities and possibilities”, the three texts that we have studied in class, the film 'Pleasantville' by Gary Ross and the poems 'Road Not Taken' by Robert Frost and 'Journey to the Interior' by Margaret Atwood, support this idea as these texts include the protagonist having embarked on not only physical and interior journeys in reality but also imaginary. The journey is known to be imaginary for the audience, but for the characters of the text these journeys have led them to be in a different stage in life, not only physical but internally, evolving into different people or having what become completely different people due to these journeys.…
A journey is a physical movement from one place to another and the emotional outcome that comes with it. Obstacles and challenges are faced by both George and Lennie in “of Mice and Men” and the persona of “I was only 19”…
Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken” remains one of my personal favorites in spite of many years of literary study. The advice of this poem has helped me to understand that when I choose atypical paths it creates a ripple effect that produces differences so profound I can hardly imagine my life without that nonstandard choice. However, I had to realize on my own that every choice has the capacity to become such a divergence. With this realization comes a certain weight to daily choices, and anything beyond that calls for careful thought and planning. The world is full of uncertainties, but assiduous preparation can produce wise choices that lead to the fulfillment of long term goals.…
We come to life changing trials in our life, some may be a path that we are glad we did while others wished that we can go back and choose the other because of a negative result. In the poem written by Robert Frost “The Road Not Taken”, shows us that making a decision is not always easy. In the…
Dating back to as far as the epic of Gilgamesh, literature has explored the most prevalent aspect of human existence, journeys. Everything is a journey in life; we go through journeys to discover things about ourselves and the world around us. It’s said that to truly learn something you have to do it yourself, but we don’t have the time to go on enough journeys to quench our cravings for answers. That’s why literature has offered us the chance to learn something, without actually doing it, so that we can learn the message from a journey, without actually going on it.…
William F Buckley quoted “If all difficulties were known at the outset of a long journey most of us would never start at all”. This quote relates to journeys, specifically to inner journeys with the intention that many journeys are difficult and if individuals knew how difficult the journey was going to be, then most of us would not even commence the journey. A journey is simply a movement from one place to another. Physical journeys are gateways to inner journeys, which is a journey of the mind and spirit. Inner journeys take place when an individual experiences events or is involved in relationships that act as a catalyst to gain greater understanding about themselves and the world. Inner journeys can be deliberately initiated, but is usually the result of new circumstances where the individual changes themselves or their perspective of themselves, others or the world.…
Have you ever wondered where you would be if you would have chosen another path? Have you ever wondered how that choice could have changed your life if you would have made it? Often I look back and think about my past and look at the places I have been and the things I have done. Some things I’m not proud of. Some of those things bring back vague memories. Whether they are good or bad they still come back to me. Everything we do is based upon choices. After we make those choices there comes consequences. We can never decide our consequences, they just come.…
In this study, I plan to reflect on my inner thoughts and perception I have of myself. Reflecting on past, present, and future things can be difficult for one to do. Sometimes life does not deal everyone a good deck of cards, but this can also be a good tool to use. Reflecting can release you from past issues and help you to press forward in achieving your goals. I plan to use this assignment to dialect my choices and to depict what I can do better in life.…
Journeys can include those that are physical, mental or inner and are often accompanied by challenges that can change the individual mostly for the better. Journeys are taken for many reasons, some are taken from choice and others are compulsory. A journey can be lone or be accompanied. The outcomes of journeys may shape the individual as a person.…
The Road Not Taken however emphasizes the significance of decisions one makes in their life and how such decisions are the catalysts to the person they become.…
Everyday people make choices such as what clothes to wear or how to style their hair. These choices are not as life changing as other choices we make that determine who we are. These can be anything like choosing whether or not to marry a person or having children. Life choices are not made by people, they are made by an individual. The choices may not be original but how they impact a person’s life is unique. Life is full of choices that must be made. “The Road Not Taken” is a consideration of the choices one must make in life.…
Literary works reflect the main ideas of the American mind. An American theme that is seen in various works of literature is the journey. The Journey is expressed in three different literary works from Franklin, Crèvecoeur, and Paine. Journeys are the foundations of our lives. Just like everything has a beginning and an end, Journeys constitute of all things in between. It is a process of getting from one point to another. These works of literature aid us in developing an open mind about how the journey is a recurring motif. Throughout Revolutionary Literature, the journey is a common theme; this is shown in internal journeys, journeys to freedom, and journeys of discovery.…
Most, if not all, people have to make an important decision at some point during their lives. Some of these decisions have the capacity to change the course of a person’s life either for the better or the worse. One of the most important decisions I have ever made up to this point in my life was to decide whether or not I should study abroad for an entire year. Some of the many reasons that made this decision such an important and difficult decision to make were because; I was only 11 years old, the implications that came with living away from my family, and the once in a life time opportunity I was faced with.…
