A Lucky Day
A Lucky Day
It was a beautiful Sunday morning, my dad hit upon a sudden idea that he would like us to try something different we have never done before. When hearing that, I couldn’t wait to do something special and funny and expected where Dad was going to take us. With joy and excitement, we kids sang happily and talked cheerfully all the way in the car. When we arrived the quiet and peaceful country with a great view welcoming our visiting, I just felt like I was in a wonderland surrounded with many giant trees, lovely birds, beautiful flowers, and other nature creatures. Of course, I couldn’t miss the good chance of taking pictures of the wonderful scenery. Before long, I heard Dad’s calling not far from me. To my surprise, he was ready to teach me how to catch a fish by giving me a fishing rod. The rivers in the suburbs were so clean and clear that we could see a lot of fish swimming here and there. Actually, it was my first time to try fishing, so I was kind of nervous and excited. As time went by, the longer I waited, the more patience I lost because I got nothing but some plastic bags or let the small fish slip out of my bait. While I was about to give up, the fishing rod in my hand was suddenly shaking hard. Did I catch the big fish? I asked the question in my mind and hoped that my guess was right. Oh, yes, “I got a huuuuuge fish, come over here to help me, Dad! I couldn’t pull it up.” Everybody heard me crying and rushed to the river side to help me pull out the big fish. Everyone in my family was shocked by what I caught. I never thought I was able to get such a pretty big fish. The feeling of catching the first big fish was the same as the feeling of winning the first prize in the lottery game. I thought I was lucky enough because I didn’t have any experience of catching fish. Even though I didn’t get any other surprises from the deep river in the rest time, I was very satisfied with the unexpected harvest. To me, it was a lucky day and it gave me an

I was with my dad fishing on a Friday during the summer at about 4:30 PM. The day was hot and bugs were everywhere around us. I had on jeans, a t-shirt and a vest to store any fish we catch. My dad had on the same, but i had a smaller fishing rod than he did because I was small and not really ready for a fishing rod like my dad’s. We went out to fish and started at a bridge that was very rundown and poorly maintained and didn’t catch much because of the current and rocks around where we were. We got one fish to bite but it fell off whenever we pulled it up out of the water. We then decided to move to another spot over by the cliffs and ridges because no one was there to get in the way. For a while we didn’t go anywhere too crazy and nowhere that took too much effort to get to. Little did I know was that it’d all change quicker than I thought..…

Fish on! Fish on! We were fishing on Eagle Lake Canada and we were headed to our lucky spot by Bird Turd island it is out in the BIG lake. We are fishing on a windy day, we hit a huge 4 foot wave head on and our Crestliner boat capsized. I quickly grabbed my backpack, in my backpack I had a marine radio, a survival kit, sunscreen, and some extra food. We swam to closest island call Bird Turd island. I looked back, all of my belonging were sinking to the bottom of the lake. We were shipwrecked! I was screaming and screaming and screaming for help but no one could hear me. I heard a boat so I screamed so more and no one was there. I was hoping someone was coming. I stayed there for what felt like hours, so I decided to walk around and look at the island. I came across and tiny little shed.…

I almost fell right out of the canoe I was so startled. I casted my line right where I heard the splash and not ten seconds after, I saw a fish jump right out of the water and take my fly. It tug so hard the whole way i was reeling it in and i thought it was going to break but luckily I was able to get the fish to the boat. It was the biggest fish i’ve ever caught and even seen in real life. My dad tried to take a picture of my catch, before he could get the camera out, the fish slipped out of my hand and plopped into the water. That whole night was filled with fishing. I caught at least a dozen more, while my dad only caught three. On our way back to the cabin I told my dad,”That was seriously funny that i caught more fish than you and you’ve been here many more times than I have.”…

The trip was quite fun because the mountains we were by were smooth while being very massive in size. The day was sunny at start but sooned became cloudy and grey I was worried that it would rain and we would have to cancel but that wasn’t the case. When we approached the lake it was massive very massive with little waves right behind each other while the smell of the open and the lake were all around me. The lake was beautiful while fish were jumping out into the air and splashed right back into the diamond lake. When I saw this I became so excited and was filled with joy. It was cloudy and breezy but the air around us was warm and soothing like being right by a fire on a breezy day. I quickly setup the equipment and grabbed my fishing rod, acquired the bait and started to fish. While I was fishing my Nina and her husband set up right by the edge of the ramp and me and my sister were set up on the side. The dog was right at the edge and about to fall of the ramp but he just stood there staring into the endless darkness of the lake. As i was enjoying the air I felt a tug on my rod and instantly knew There was a fish at the end, I instantly started to reel in my line a was struggling just a bit, the fish was also struggling and it was determined by who had the most stamina. I reeled in my line and there was a mid to large sized fished on the line and I felt proud that I caught my first fish of the day. After a hour I caught 4 fish and felt proud of myself for actually staying a whole day outside and having fun. We decided to head to the house when it started to rain. When we arrived at the house it was already turning night so we headed in but before we did that my Nina showed me how to gut a fish, even though it was disgusting it was informational. After that the rest of the stay was very relaxing and pleasent and was glad to travel there for half of the…

We were on our way to Canobie Lake Park. It had been a long two hours, but my dad was playing comedian albums from his phone, so we were preoccupied. “Are we almost there?” my brother asked. “No, were not stop asking.” Little brothers can be so annoying with their questions. We were almost there just five minutes to go. The view was so gorgeous. The lake was glistening from the sun. I had been to focused on the view and before I knew it we were at the…

In Elizabeth Olsen’s work titled The Fish, a seemingly ordinary fishing experience reveals much more than expected. In the sea on a rented old boat, what was found was not what was intentionally searched for. In looking for sustenance or to fill an internal void with confidence, the speaker finds themself humbled in a moment of catharsis by the understanding of mortality and the possibilities within it.…

The stink of our catch was heavy in the summer air. While we brought in catch after catch, a heron landed a meter or so away from us on the pier. Obviously, my brother and I were ecstatic at the sight. What child would not be excited at such an odd occurrence? In an effort to keep the heron nearby, our parents suggested we feed it. Yet, all we had was the slim bounty from our fishing. The only fish to be had on hand was dangling from my fishing pole. Its rancid odor unpleasantly made itself known to me as I stared at it, knowing what I must do. My father carefully removed my catch from the hook, holding it out towards me. I wrinkled my nose as my hand extended towards the wriggling creature. A shiver ran through me as I made contact with the slimy, scaled flesh. It was discomforting to say the least, however, I stomached the sensation long enough to lob the fish towards the heron. To my complete dismay, it landed near the edge of the pier and squirmed its way back into the…

Arriving at the river, I abandon discretion and resolve that this morning I’m going to wade wet. I knew I wouldn’t make it to the top of the murky, warm and brown waters. I could feel the oxygen being released quickly from my lungs and bubbles swiftly skimming my skin as I slowly reached the bottom of the lake. I heard the faint cries for help and loud splashing as my sight becomes blurred. I felt someone’s hands grab mine and pull me onto the grainy dusty dirt. My vision comes back and I feel everyone’s eyes on me. They all immediately start laughing at me as I stood up and brushed the dirt off of me, feeling something tightly clutch my body.…

Geographically, my world appeared small, but I had no idea. We swam and fished at Reelfoot Lake - muddy and full of cypress trees. Where we swam a sign read, THE BEACH - in my eyes, I was at the beach. At the spillway my Uncle John D taught me how to catch carp and brim as they slid across a bumpy concrete slide. When I asked him where the fish came from he said, “Somebody told me China, but this man lies sometimes.” I…

We all swam and got our poles and began fishing. I swam out to the raft and began to bait my hook Jack just got out and swam and fished and John went to the dock. At about 6ish we had a few fish in the live trap nothing to big. I was changing my hook leaving my line in the water looking at my tackle box trying to figure out what to use when my pole shot toward the water. I quickly grabbed it and my line began to wine. I set my hook and my pole was bent an extreme angle. I was using my large fish pole so I was lucky in that sense it took me over a half hour to reel it in, it was a large pike. That was my last fish of the night and began to clean all the fish while Jack and John got the fire started. We cooked at ate the fish while we just sat till almost midnight. At the end of the night, we all went home, Jack got in trouble because he was supposed to be home at…

On January 19th, 2008 I was the happiest person alive. It was very hot and sunny out.. I remember how nice of weather it was. My family and I had taken a vacation to Florida and it was one of the best experiences of my life. 7 years was a long time ago, but I still remember every single detail about that trip. On that day, one of the best things ever in my life happened. Even though most people don’t think this is a big deal, it was a very big deal to me. When I was in Elementry school my friends would always ask me if I wanted to go biking around the neighborhood.. I would always have to say no because I did not know how to ride a bike. As much as I tried to learn how, I would always give up. Nothing would work. I was the last of my friends to learn how to ride a bike. It always made me sad watching people bike down the road.. wishing I knew how to do that. Then one day, my cousin Lexie who is 2 years younger than me decided she was going to teach me how to ride a bike. She insisted on it. “Ally! You’re missing out on so much! You need to learn!!” The whole day I thought to myself how many people have tried to teach me how to ride a bike and failed. It was hopeless. I was positive I wasn’t going to learn anytime soon.. maybe even never. Later that day, Lexie came over with her bike, and I had mine. Every minute that went by felt like an hour. Even though I could see the disappointment on her face, she wasn’t going to give up on me. Finally, there was hope. She had done it! We had done it.. I had done it. I was biking down the sidewalk with the biggest smile on my face. I had finally learned how to ride a bike without training wheels. I could finally ride one on my own and be like the rest of the kids. I remember being full of joy that day and riding my bike the whole day long. On that day, I felt different, I felt as if a huge weight had just been lifted off my shoulders. It was an amazing feeling that I’ll definitely never forget.…
