A Meal To Remember
A meal to remember

A meal to remember Food is one of my most favourite things in life, without it life would be very boring. Though I have had some pretty good meals in my life, there was one memorable meal that still makes my mouth water. It was at about a year back at my aunt’s house, in celebration of her eldest son, my cousin, pulling all A’s in his A Level exams. We spent most of the day talking about everything that took place since we last saw each other, and all the while the aroma of the food being cooked kept my nose engrossed. When it was meal time and we were called to the dining table, which was most welcome since I was starved by then. First, my aunt served fried rice which is a traditional part of any feast, and then roasted chicken was brought out. The rice was well cooked but wasn’t too oily, and the chicken was roasted brown, a bit overdone, just the way me and my cousins preferred. Both looked delicious, so with wasting any more time I took some rice and grabbed a large chicken drumstick on my plate. I took the fork and knife in my hand and cut a rather large piece of it and put it in my mouth. The crust outside was nice and crisp, yet the meat was tender and succulent inside. As I continued eating eagerly I noticed that she had also served shrimps, which was equally scrumptious. I took double helping of both the chicken and the shrimp, and munched away. Finally, after almost an hour, all of us had finished our meal, and kept complimenting my aunt on what an amazing meal it was and what a great cook she is. I stayed another hour with them mainly because I was so full that I couldn’t move. As I left I thanked my aunt again for such a good meal. It was one meal that neither me nor my taste-buds would ever forget.

The waiter was a kind lady, who immediately gave my dad and I good-looking bread. When I put the bread into my mouth, an explosion of buttery, juicy bread excited my taste buds. It was only a couple minutes in, and I already liked the food. When the waiter came back, my dad had asked the waiter what were some good appetizers to devour on. She stated that the papa rellena, tamal en hoja, and tostones rellenos were good foods to try. I was curious why she chose these three, but when they came and I put them in my mouth, I understood why. They each had their own unique taste, with the papa rellena being my favorite one. It was so interesting and tasty how they stuffed beef into a potato. For the main course, I decided to try something different and amusing. I ordered a rabo encendido, which is the tail of an ox. Even though it sounds disgusting, it was surprisingly good, with a soft, beefy-like taste to it. My dad ordered arroz con pollo, which when arrived at our table was like a mountain of rice. I must say that for the first time in my life, I didn’t have room for desert. In the end, my dad and I brought boxes of left over Cuban food home, both agreeing that the food was worth the price.…

Last weekend, I went to Suwanee, GA to see my father and stepmother because it had recently been my stepmother's birthday. In celebration we chose to dine out at a restaurant called Gulf Coast Grill. It was the first time my family had eaten at the restaurant, but will not be the last. Once stepping inside, I knew it was going to be interesting because the restaurant had a very strong beach theme as well as a live band playing. After being told it was going to be a fifteen to twenty minute wait, I was surprised when our table was called after less than ten. The restaurant experience was already off to a good start, and only continued to get better.…

Food provokes lively, warm, jovial feelings for me; this is especially true during the holidays. Baked goods still sparks my olfactory sense and makes me reminisce of Christmas. When I recall these memories I am at my grandmother’s house as a young child. It starts when the oven door opens, vapors of brown sugar waft through the kitchen and the caramelized, buttery aroma with lingering scents of cinnamon. For me, these memories fill me with joy and always evoke a grin. This feeling are even stronger when I recall, in particular, baguettes. My interest in bread became irrepressible at the beginning of my cooking career, and developed into a obsessive urge to create perfection the more I focused on it.…

A courtroom workgroup in the U.S criminal justice system is an informal arrangement between a criminal prosecutor, criminal defense attorney, and the judicial officer. The courtroom working group seeks to bring justice to all. It ensures that all parties are accorded due fairness and equal opportunity regardless of gender, race, age, religious affiliation nor any other factor. They also see to it that trials are completed successfully. These individuals are grouped into two categories. These are the professionals and the outsiders. Professionals are the court officers such as the judges, attorneys, public defenders, defense attorneys and court reporters. I believe that the criminal prosecutor, defense attorney, and a judicial officer make up the most common courtroom work group. The daily interaction of this group is to make sure that rules are being followed in each group. Also making sure it is given in a timely fashion. The courtroom work group needs to work in order to offer plea bargains and select jurors.…

I remember the one day, it was early in the morning and I was going to my basketball game. We stopped to help this lady get home by giving her a ride. Then once we dropped the lady off at her house we drove off and had to stop for some deer to cross the road. Once the deer crossed the road, we were finally off to the game, we made it to the game with time to spare. With the time we had to spare I had some biscuits and gravy, and i devoured them in seconds and had some orange juice after.…

This 4th of July, I invited my best friend Sara and her husband for a dinner at my house. For dinner we decided to bake chicken and lamb chops with side dish of potato egg salad, spicy garlic broccoli rabe, radish and chive edamame salad. For dessert, ice-cream and brownies and some red wine to drink. Sara volunteered to get potato egg salad and wine as I took the responsibility to cook the rest of the meals. I knew I only had a couple of hours before the dinner so I started cooking early. I marinated the meat and put the meat in the oven to bake and started working on the side dish. In 85 minutes, I was done with all my cooking. I quickly went upstairs, took a shower, got dressed and came downstairs just in time to welcome…

I walked into the kitchen and spotted a turkey and prime rib, chicken, smoked ham, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, candy yams, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and greens. The delightful scents of turkey and prime rib, cheese, buttered corn, sweet yams, and gravy filled the air. I hear a timer go off, an oven opening, a microwave beeping, barbeques grilling, and family talking. I taste all sorts of things such as turkey and prime rib, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, candy yams, mashed potatoes, and greens. I touch my fork and spoon, the glass full of water, my napkin, my plate, and my food. I sight, smell, hear, taste, and touch many things during my Thanksgiving dinner.…

It's a long day at Phoenix College, I was exhausted and needed some sleep. I was also starving because I missed breakfast and didn't have any snacks throughout the day. So I eventually decided to go eat with my girlfriend due to my hunger and my need for company. My girlfriend and I went to Cane's Raising Chicken Finger further late that evening. When we got to the restaurant we rushed inside because it was furiously burning hot outside as we wanted to avoid the heat as much as possible. The restaurant politely greeted us as we walked up to the cashier. We began to order, our order was six chicken fingers, two Texas toasts, two sauces, a side of fries and a lemonade. Without assistance, we found a booth and sat down. It took a couple of…

The best part of the day had arrived, dinner. We had a reservation at the pier in which we were going to eat dinner. We looked like a whole bunch of bees ready to attack. The food was there. Right in front of our noses. We could feel the presence of the warmth coming from the food. The smell was just making our mouths water and our tummies rumble. We looked at each other with such eagerness to have some of those explicit desserts in our mouths. There we were, with our food served and ready to attack. I knew that when I was done with this food there was no longer going to be any space for the dessert. Overall the food was amazing and the experience as well.…

    Salvadoran Culture

Back then, I was very picky about what I ate. I only ate white rice, chicken nuggets, and pizza, which were all very bad for me. But now that I am all grown up, I am not as picky than I was as a child, and I feel more in touch with my culture now. I am Salvadoran, which people mistakenly think I am Mexican or some other race, and one food I love from El Salvador is pupusas. They are like a very thick tortilla stuffed with beans, pork, and cheese and you put hispanic coleslaw on top and pour red sauce on top of, yet I only the pupusa by itself. I remember my mom tried to make pupusas and it wasn’t like the ones we had at Salvadorian restaurant because this one had love. The first time she made it was awful, it was very dry and the beans were leaking out off the tortilla because she did not have that right corn flour to make it with. Though the food was really bad, all I remember was having fun and making a mess in the kitchen. But the next couple of times, they turned out a lot better. Also recently during Christmas, my mom has been making my great grandmother’s turkey recipe for that last five years, which consists of twenty tomatoes! I love this recipe so much that I wish one day that I could replicated.…

In fatigue, we went to a small stall near the dock selling Pho soup. We thought that it wouldn’t be very good because it is simply street side food. The Pho soup was the best my whole family and I have ever tasted, even to this date. The warm soup with had a slight, tasteful tang which was easily and slowly sliding down my throat. It was the best feeling I could have felt after doing such a tiring activity.…
