Nintendo of America Inc., established in 1980, is a subsidiary of Nintendo Co. of Japan. They have been the worldwide leader in the creation of interactive entertainment; they have sold more than a billion video games to the world (Nintendo 2010). In 2006, Nintendo created the revolutionary video game console “The Wii". The Wii was designed to attract larger demographic users than other gaming systems. It was, and still, very successful; attracted many people from different ages and it resulted in huge profits since it was created.
Unfortunately, recently attitude of consumers and environment has been changing unfavourably for the Nintendo. This analysis is to reveal the key successful factors that made Nintendo a leader in its industry, touch the weak points or mistakes it has done and recommend some strategies to keep Nintendo a leading player.

    Nintendo led the market in the globally lucrative video game retail industry. Nintendo 64 was released in 1996, and quickly became one of the most sought after products in the market. Sales continued to rise throughout 1997, yet in 1998 Nintendo faced a problem as some third-party game developers shifted their focus towards the Song Playstation. As Nintendo console sales began to wane, an even greater importance was placed on the market for Game Boys. Handheld games were becoming a very significant contributor to profits across U.S. and Canada. Comparatively, the handheld market in Canada was not as strong as the U.S. market. The size of the U.S. led to a more demographically balanced base of users spread apart over the country. The biggest strength that Nintendo has is a strong brand name along with high returns. A well established brand name gives Nintendo an edge over its competitors. Nintendo is the only company that has managed to capitalize on both hardware and software components. The biggest opportunity for Nintendo is to incorporate themselves into the online gaming market due to short product life cycles. Nintendo maintains their competitive advantage through superior game and character development, for which it often owns the legal rights. In a technical comparison of the Wii against its major competitors, it is substantially outperformed in speed processing, memory, storage, networking, video output and multimedia output. If Nintendo wishes to maintain a competitive advantage, the niche market must be penetrated while maintaining the integrity of the Nintendo brand image. Nintendo Black would become a subsidiary company of Nintendo Co. Ltd. that will operate with a mission to specialize in advanced technological specifications to consoles that will compete with Microsoft and Sony.     Nintendo is a Japanese based corporation founded in 1989. It’s original purpose was producing handmade hanafuda cards. After failed attempts at changing the direction of the company, it found success in the interactive entertainment systems and software industry. It changed its name from Nintendo Playing Card Company to Nintendo Company, Ltd. in 1963. Since then, Nintendo Co. has been creating video games and gaming systems that have become tops in their respective categories. In the early 1980’s, Donkey Kong was introduced to the markets and became an instant classic. This was followed a couple years later with Super Mario Brothers and Legend of Zelda. All three of these games are recognizable by most people. After these games were introduced on Nintendo’s original game system, Nintendo introduced an upgraded version of their original gaming system and called it Super Nintendo. This 16-bit console enjoyed instant success in both the Japan and American markets. Five years later another upgrade was introduced called Nintendo 64. Since then, Nintendo has introduced Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo Wii. Both systems, along with the previous consoles, have enjoyed much success along with the software (games) that they also create. Today, Nintendo is still enjoying an increase in sales with their Nintendo Wii console and games.
