Introduction:
Through my learning experiences of the supply chain classes, I am truly interested in the topic of Global Transportation Options, especially for the Ocean Transportation. Therefore, I supposed to display and interpret how is this kind of industries works and some related parts through a research of the leading marine transportation company-China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company. This paper manly focused on ocean transportation which is the mainly form in global business, though it seems more time-consuming comparing to other channel of transportation such as air, however, its low cost, huge loading capacity and natural facilitate makes it become more popular in global transportation. In addition, the ocean transportation firms ought to be tied up with Ports as well as be defined as a Third Party logistic partners.
China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co. (COSCO) is one of the largest liner shipping companies serving companies all over the world. It is a government-owned company. Founded in April 1961 with a registered capital of 1.9 billion Yuan in Beijing, COSCO is now a 116-billion-yuan corporation specializing in shipping and modern logistics. COSCO has six listed companies and more than 300 subsidiaries providing services in: freight forwarding, ship building, ship repairing, terminal operations, container manufacturing, trade, financing, real estate, and information technologies. COSCO ranks sixth largest in number of container ships and ninth largest in aggregate container volume in the world; they are shuttling to 1,300 ports in more than 160 countries around the world.
Research content: COSCO has formed a global structure with Beijing as the center, 9 regional companies in Hong Kong, America, Europe, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Korea, West Asia and Africa as the radiation points. COSCO Group established COSCO Network Ltd. in order to construct an "Innovative

Trade-off between shipment size and operations flexibility depends on key factors: commodity, size and weight, distance, value, desired travel time, costs and service level requirements.
