A Shot in the Dark Immunization has been deemed the most important public health intervention in history, after safe drinking water. It has saved millions of lives over the years and prevented hundreds of millions of cases of disease. There are many legitimate concerns about vaccines safety from parents. Questions arise if vaccines should be state mandated without the choice from parents.
Ethically speaking, parents need to be aware on the importance of vaccination for herd immunity. A look into the history of how the first vaccine was created and used should be examined. How a vaccine is produced and tested is an important factor to help ease some uncertainty in parents. The subject involving school entry mandates and how a child may be exempt is questioned. It is also important to understand how our bodies immune system works naturally as well as with the aid of a vaccine. What are the benefits of vaccination, oppose to naturally contracting the disease? Society should be educated on the components that make up the different types of vaccines to gain a more knowledge perspective of them. We also must take a look at current and past vaccines side effects and rare adverse events. How are the side effects of vaccines classified? How does one report such incidences? If such severe cases are happening, is that vaccine taken off the market? With the amount of research out there, we should be able to answers these questions in full detail. In the end, we will gain a better understanding of vaccines, as well as their side effects and adverse events. Hopefully we can put to rest the doubts parents are now facing with all this hyped media controversy that has planted doubts about vaccinating their children.
Starting in the 17th century, scientist began experimenting with vaccines to help control infectious diseases. The rise of towns, with its crowding of people together, has made possible
