I remember a time in school when we had to do a project with a team of classmates. We were supposed to come up with an idea for a business and set up everything about the business such as the name, type of business, how it would be managed and so on. There were four students in the group and we were able to get many different ideas about what type of business we should have and what the names would be. Each person was able to be in charge of different parts of assignment, and that way no one was required to do a large amount of work in a set time. Although we did get an A, there were some failures as well. Some students in the group were more willing to give input and weren’t afraid to speak up about their ideas. Others had to be pushed for ideas and tended to go along with what the others thought was a good decision even if they might not have agreed. Even when it was time to divvy of the work, there were discrepancies. I particularly didn’t like the idea of giving each person something different to do, only because some in the group didn’t really care about the project as much as others and I felt they weren’t trying their best on their part. I removed myself from my friend group but still stayed within ear shot of them. As I watched my friends huddle around each other, it's very clear who the dominate voice was. It was Eric. He determined what they talked about, what was funny, and ultimately what they thought about his topic. Among these topics, were videos making fun of Al Qaeda terrorists. Everyone knows that that is a serious issue with a lot of emotional baggage. Yet... they were laughing. A couple people acknowledged the crudeness of his sense of humor but they laughed anyway for the sake of being part of the group. I feel as teenagers, we try to stay away from awkward situation so we just go along with what everyone else is doing. It's "group-think." Discussions among group members were held 4 times, on the 29th October, 2nd November, 4th November and 6th November, respectively. Besides of our normal meeting in college, the discussions also were held through the MSN chat and email. Each of our group members was allocated with task and although conflicts arise during the discussion, we still managed to solve the problem. My group’s overall cooperation was really well but had minor arguments here and there. A minor argument my group had was discussing what we should do for our performance. My group couldn’t decide whether we wanted to perform it in class or in a video. It was a slight dispute but we finally agreed to make a video.
