A novel that i have studied is called 'A Walk To Remember' by Nicholas Spark. I liked this novel because of the characters, the plot and the message "Love conquers all." In this essay I will go more into depth of these points.
The main characters are Landon Carter, a rich, popular and troubled guy who falls in love with Jamie Sullivan an unpopular, very shy and religious girl. I like how Nicholas Spark brings two very different characters together and creates a strong bond between them. To me they symbolise the power of love.
In saying that my personal opinion is that “Love conquers all” is the main theme of the novel. In the beginning we are introduced to an immature, angry and spoilt Landon who only thinks about his image and status in high school. Then he gets to know Jamie Sullivan and develops feelings for someone who he’d thought he’d never fall in love with. Evidence from the text that helps support this idea is when Jamie first meets Landon and she tells him “you have to promise, not to fall in love with me” Landon then replies saying “that’s not going to be a problem” but throughout the book Landon grows closer to Jamie and eventually ends up falling in love with her. Towards the end of the novel Landon and Jamie begin falling in love and Jamie confesses to Landon that she has leukemia and is dying, Landon shocked and confused leaves Jamie but shortly realises that he was wrong and returns. Throughout the rest of the book Landon dedicates the rest of his time to making all the things on Jamies wishlist come true. To me this shows how strong the love bond between Jamie and Landon have has grown. Finally at the end of the book Landon proposes to Jamie and shortly after she dies. Landon remembers the memories that he shared with Jamie before she past and says “I always miss her, but our love is like the wind, you can’t see it but you can feel it”. This to me again backs up and supports the idea of love conquers all.
