The movie "The Breakfast Club" is one of the best movies for teenagers and misunderstood students. It clearly depicts the feeling, emotions and way of thinking of most of the teenagers. By watching this movie, you can relate well with the characters they portray and with the kind of communication they use.…
“The Grinnies” is an entertaining essay about a young girl who had grown up with a term that she thought everyone knew. It was only through what was perceived as a bad grade that she found out that everyone did not know what she was talking about.…
The essays from Week Two and Week Three show many great techniques. These essays serve as models and give me great goals for my essay. In “One Afternoon” by John Rosenthal on page 174 when he is going through the records he talks about his feelings and his thoughts. This can be seen when he says “Patti Page’s ‘Doggie in the Window.’ I bought that? A small voice in the back of my mind said, Of course you did. And you still remember all of the lyrics.” Using this technique will help make my literacy narrative essay more interesting to read. In my essay I will use this method, when describing the first time I met my favorite author, Jamie Dodson, by saying, “He was sitting in a lawn chair outside of the shower building with his laptop plugged…
The film “The Breakfast Club” directed by John Hughes is a compelling film that illustrates the inner working of the teenage mind-set. A film quite literally opens your eyes to how teenagers work within different stereotypes. John Hughes is able to show how although each character may give the impression that everything is “OK” but really, on the inside their whole life is just constant stress. This stress, which numerous things, including their parents and peers brought on, effected them in a way in which throughout the film, we as the audience have more insight into their lives as teenagers. Many of the characters in this film are easily relatable; however, Hughes has been able to show the differences within the inner workings of their…

Every child goes through the struggle of finding themselves. The Breakfast Club has so many examples of all kinds of high schoolers trying to find their identity. Right in the beginning of the movie, when they walk into Saturday school, the teacher told them that during their time there they had to write about paper about who…
“To kill a mockingbird” a book revealing the truth of a society, where people are judged for their origins, culture, or race rather than being judged for who they are. Where evilness takes over all the goodness and the stronger beat the weak. Just like a mockingbird, an innocent, pure creature seeking shelter, but being accused of evilness and harmfulness. Harper lee focusing on the title as much as the theme of the book, tries to convey a message. What is harper lee trying to convey, and to what extent can the plot and the theme of the book relate to the title “to kill a mockingbird”?…
The Breakfast Club is a movie made in the 80's about 5 very different teenagers who are forced to spend the day in detention. At first, they appear to be judgmental of the others but by the end they learn to respect one another because they aren't so different after all. This movie is still very applicable and popular. The movie is so well received because of the characters, the message and cinematography.…
On a Friday night, you might often find yourself mindlessly browsing through the abundance of movies available to watch on Netflix or Amazon. In fact, it's likely you spend at least ten minutes, if not more, just trying to narrow down the options with great frustration. Next time, just skip ahead of the monotonous search and look for one movie: The Breakfast Club. Released in 1985, The Breakfast Club is about a group of seemingly different high school students that must spend the majority of their Saturday in detention together, each leaving the experience with a new perspective of their classmates. While some may say movies are for simple entertainment alone, I would argue otherwise as this particular film presents highly important messages to its audience. It alludes to themes of learning not to judge others based on stereotypes, self-acceptance, and, additionally, viewers may more easily relate to the characters, unlike with many other teen films. It is, without a doubt, essential for teenagers and adults alike, to watch this movie.…
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus is very honorable, reliable, and conscientious, and he does many great things that most people back in the 1930’s wouldn’t normally do; still today, many people are not like him. Atticus acted honorably, showed wisdom, bravery, and always did the things that he felt was the right thing to do. He taught Jem and Scout to also stand up for the things that they felt were right. Because of those good things, he has many friends and is respected in Maycomb. The only bad thing is that when he agreed to defend a black person, it upset some people and even caused some people to do bad things to his family. Throughout the book, Atticus proves himself to be feeble, articulate, and benevolent.…
One of the most popular films of the 1970s was “SNF”. Many people all over idealized its music and lifestyle. Two of the main characters were regulars on popular TV shows (Welcome back kotter, and All my children). This movie is a reflection of the interests of the American people during the 1970s. People did not mind and most cases wanted to be distracted from the major political issues of the time, such as the recent war in Vietnam and resignation of Richard Nixon among other things.…

Of all the 1980 's films, that can be described as "Eighties Teen Movies" (Thorburn, 1998) or "High School Movies" (Messner, 1998), those written and (with the exception of "Pretty In Pink" (1986) and "Some Kind of Wonderful"(1987)) directed by John Hughes were often seen to define the genre, even leading to the tag "John Hughes rites de passage movies" as a genre definition used in 1990s popular culture (such as in "Wayne 's World 2" (1994 dir. Stephen Surjik)). This term refers to the half dozen films made between 1984 and 1987; chronologically, "Sixteen Candles" (1984), "The Breakfast Club" (1985), "Weird Science" (1985), "Ferris Bueller 's Day Off" (1986), "Pretty In Pink" (1986) and "Some Kind Of Wonderful" (1987) (the latter two being directed by Howard Deutch). For the purpose of this study, "Weird Science" and "Some Kind of Wonderful" shall be excluded; "Weird Science" since, unlike the other films, it is grounded in science fiction rather than reality and "Some Kind of Wonderful" as its characters are fractionally older and have lost the "innocence" key to the previous movies: as Bernstein states "the youthful naivete was missing and the diamond earring motif [a significant gift within the film] was no substitute" (Bernstein, 1997, p.89). Bernstein suggests that the decadent 1980s were like the 1950s, "an AIDS-free adventure playground with the promise of prosperity around every corner our last age of innocence" (Bernstein, 1997, p.1). The films were very much a product of the time in terms of their production ("suddenly adolescent spending power dictated that Hollywood direct all its energies to fleshing out the fantasies of our friend, Mr. Dumb Horny 14 Year Old" Bernstein, 1997, p.4), their repetition (with the growth of video cassette recorders, cable and satellite with time to fill, and also the likes of MTV promoting the film 's soundtracks) and their ideologies.…
In the Random House Webster’s College Dictionary one definition of bamboozled reads: “to deceive or get the better of by underhandedness; hoodwink (p. 105)”. In Spike Lee’s movie, Bamboozled (Lee, 2000), he explores how society buys into the stereotypes of African American in the media. Bamboozled (Lee, 2000), is a satirical film that explores many different genres; including drama, comedy, perhaps black comedy, and music. Lee's basing the movie in satire form was a brilliant move because in it he was able to push the envelope harder than drama or straight comedy would have allowed.…
