Midterm 1 Study Guide
This exam will combine essay and scantron questions. It will be open Bible but nothing else. You will have the entire class time to complete it (about 55 minutes). This is a guide. Except where specified, it is not intended to be a guarantee that you will be tested on these and only these items. But it should prepare you to do well if you make the effort.

I would also go through each of the biblical texts you’ve been assigned, memorizing how each one connects to the main themes from reading and class discussion. (Any given text will relate on multiple levels.) This will mean you can work faster on the essay question.
Essays:
Essay(s) will be drawn from the following prompts:
What evidence is there of pre-Biblical Jerusalem “mythology” (i.e., conceptual constructions)?
Recount the development of Zion theology from its beginnings to the fall of Jerusalem in 586 bc.
Discuss the ways the Temple of Jerusalem influenced the thinking about Jerusalem as a whole.
Discuss the major ways the Temple of Jerusalem was perceived from its construction until its destruction in 586 bc.
Discuss the role of the Temple in perceptions of the destruction of Jerusalem during and after the exile.
