The transition between childhood and adulthood is a time in one’s life where new ideas, perspectives, and feelings emerge. James Joyce hones in on this period of life and coming of age in his short story “Araby” which follows a nameless narrator as he explores new experiences and feelings. Through imagery, diction, and syntax, Joyce develops the main character into a teenager who is ready for the next step in his life; he wants to leave his childhood in the past and embrace this newfound feeling of love that he is experiencing. Through imagery, Joyce develops the boy and the new feeling of love he is experiencing. The diction Joyce uses establishes a tone throughout the short story. The syntax Joyce includes reveals the boy’s true thoughts about the girl, thus developing his characterization farther. Joyce is able to capture the essence of the transition to adulthood with these three literary techniques.…

Writers are faced with decisions of the use of their diction to stimulate a reaction from the reader in order to increase his or her enjoyment of reading. If authors would choose their words poorly books would be boring and uninteresting. This explains why word choice is important for an author to use correctly throughout their book, story, etc. Visualize this line from " A worn Path" With the use of great word choice. " Big dead trees, like black men with one arm"¦" (Paragraph #) Now try visualizing the same scene without the words big, black, and dead it would seem boring and no picture would pop up in your mind.…

How people who are Arab Americans are marginalizing from everyone else? Arab Americans are much mistreated everywhere they go. My resources show that Arab American’s are very unlike because of their race history. After certain tragedies, Americans immediately think it was done be “terrorists” or the Arab race. And it causes the people to lash out towards the Arab Americans at their houses. Arabic people have been targeted in airports ever since 9/11 happened, especially by the airport security. Also, young Arab Americans are getting abused and harassed in their schools. They even get bullied inside the work place.…

A good mnemonic: the Sun Letters contain all pairs (but not triples) - except ‘a`ynun’ and ‘rhaynun’ - and ‘noonun’ (when the sun shines) and ‘lamun’ (two ‘sukoons’ in a row). When a word beginning with a definite ‘alif lam’ is immediately followed by a Sun Letter, the ‘lamun’ is not pronounced. Instead, the ‘alifun’ (a ‘hamzatu-l’waSli’) combines together with the Sun Letter, which takes a ‘shaddatun’ (e.g. ‘alHuroofu-l’shamsiyyatu’ becomes ‘alHuroofu-sh’shamsiyyatu’). Moon Letters pronounce the ‘lamun’.…
