Created a specific request with enough time to turn in a completed report.
1) I learned that if something seemed unclear I need to ask clarifying questions. When he gave a generalized request like “as soon as possible” I need to ask for better details.
2) The main cause of the misunderstanding was that I was unable to complete his request given the restrictions that were placed upon me, but I had agreed to do as he asked. As the sender my boss should have made clear that there was a close deadline and made sure that I was aware it needed to be done by that time. As the receiver, if I had a better understanding of what he was asking for I could have told him it was an impossible task and avoided extra conflicts or asked for more time.
