Fahrenheit 451 is a great book written by Ray Bradbury. In his novel, he writes about how the future is deprived from books and how life focuses on giant screens as their main source of entertainment. The main character and the most important character is named Montag. Montag is a firefighter who tries to change his life from reading books which is illegal. Although society is forced to live a life without books, Montag feels the need for books and plays an important role in the story. Montag’s actions are influenced mainly by two people, Clarisse and Faber. Clarisse is Montag’s new neighbor who is the first to knock consciousness into his head. She gives him lots of advice and asks him hard questions. The question that changed Montag was “Are you happy?” This question changed Montag because it made him think of all his life and is confused and then so decides to turn to books. Montag finds books hard to understand and decides to ask an English teacher named Faber. Faber influences Montag by getting him more into books and knowledge. Montag is important because he tries to take initiative into changing society to read books. He feels that people need to read to get a better understanding about life. Some actions he takes to change society is by killing Beatty, the strongest person who opposes books. He also tries to get his wife and her friends into books by reading to them a poem but fails. Montag progresses a lot in the story. He goes from being an ordinary brainwashed person to an intellectual trying to change life. It is ironic that at first he opposes books and burns them but by the end he tries to save them and quits being a firefighter. Montag becomes influential to people especially Faber because he repeatedly tells him to “give up” in his pursuit for change. Fahrenheit is a great book that takes you into a journey of how a person tries to achieve happiness through books. Montag proves to be an important figure
