In the first part of the book, Business philosopher, Peter Drucker portrays the business model of today, and highlights the necessary interactions of managers with the model. According to Drucker every organization is based on some assumptions – these assumptions are about markets, organizations mission and core competencies. It is highly imperative that there is a strong fit between assumptions and actual reality. One of the prime reasons of current business failures hinges on the gap between the reality and perceived notions about market, environment, technology, core competencies on the organizations part. The success of a company depends upon a sound and realistic business theory that successfully addresses the reason a company is paid for, what it wants to accomplish, how it want to accomplish and while doing that in what manner it contributes to society. Drucker furthermore stresses that the theory of business must be understood throughout the organization and tested constantly to ensure that it stays valid for the business in the overhaul.…

In times where the ‘industry needs a supportive policy agenda, it is disappointing that the Government’s general policy direction seems destined to achieve the opposite.’ (A wake up for Westminster). It is evident that the Government is not favouring the beer industry. Furthermore, Governments tax and regulatory policy for tackling alcohol misuse is likely to increase further significant costs on the industry. This suggests that the government is failing to address the problem and rather leaving the industry more weakened.…

I believe that Business Studies is the key to successful career development in modern society. It is a subject which particularly interests me, because of its relevance to current economic issues and the potential it provides for employment in many areas. During my HND course I have particularly enjoyed investigating the structure of organisations and the factors which contribute to successful business practice. This is of special interest to me as my ambition for the future is to one day start my own business. I have learnt that successful business practice and management can be creative and inspirational. However, it must be founded in a firm understanding of business principle and underlying disciplines within the broader social and economic context.…

The Equity Theory states that people assess how fairly they have been treated according to two key factors: outcomes and inputs. (Batemen, Snell, 2007) In this case study, Brian is an employee of AMPA and is appointed as the unofficial Help Desk coordinator, however it is clear that there seems to be a lot of inequity in the workplace. Brian was being treated unfairly and was clearly experiencing underpayment inequity in AMPA which exists when a person’s own outcome/input ratio is perceived to be less than that of a referent (Jones, George, 2003).…

From a very young age, I have been interested in the way businesses are run: how shops are laid out, how they sell themselves to the customer, asking myself why are video games so differently priced? My enthusiasm for Business Studies and Management grew from a visit in my youth to my father's newspaper office at Canary Wharf. I was intrigued by the amount of work and effort that was put into running a daily newspaper, wondering how it was possible to manage so many people and run a business that involved such careful delegation and use of time.…
