Rationale
The ZAMBOECOZONE is considered as one of the secondary growth centers identified in the Zamboanga City Master Development Plan, to sustain its economy the ZAMBOECOZONE would require the basic infrastructure and public services such as Solid Waste Management, these refers to all activities pertaining to the control, transfer and transport, processing and disposal of waste in accordance with the best principles of public health, economics, engineering, conservation, aesthetic and other environmental considerations. Its scope includes all attendant administrative, financial, legal, planning and engineering functions.
Solid Waste and its Management will become a serious concern of the authority once it is fully operational with the influx of industrial and commercial establishments and people will ultimately bring about problems in solid waste. In order to address/response to this problems, measures and steps must be taken, among which are the provision of solid waste management service, provision of more cost effective collection and hauling services, development and implementation of other solid waste disposal approaches such as sanitary landfill, incineration and waste to energy disposal scheme.
Generation rates: Rural – 0.3 kg/person/day Urban – 0.4 to 0.5 kg/person/day
Materials Recovery Facility
The main function of materials recovery facility (MRF) is to maximize the quantity of recyclable processed, while producing materials that will generate the highest possible revenues in the market. The MRF shall serve as an intermediate processing step between the collection of recyclable materials from waste generators and the sale of recyclable materials to markets for use in making new products.
There are basically four components of a MRF:
