Corporate Level Strategy directs the organization as a whole toward sustainable competitive advantage. The purpose of corporate strategy is to set direction and guide resource allocations for the entire enterprise.
When figuring out the corporate level strategy companies ask this question “In what industries and markets should we compete?”
Business – Level Strategy
Business Level strategy identifies how a division or strategic business unit will compete in its product or service domain.
To chose the strategy at the business level the question “How are we going to compete for customers in this industry and market” is asked.
Business strategy decisions include choosing product and service mix, facilities locations, new technologies and the like.
Functional Strategy
Functions Strategy guides the use of organization resources to implement business strategy
The focus at this level of strategy are on functional areas such as marketing, finance, human resources, manufacturing.
The strategic question to be asked in this level is “How can we best utilize resources within a function to implement our business strategy?” The answer to that questions usually involves the choice of management practices within each function that improves operating efficiency, product or service quality, customer service, or innovativeness
