THE STORMING OF THE BASTILLE
· -This major event of the revolution happened because Louis made a serious mistake.(he brought troops into Paris because he was scared.)
· -He ordered troops to Paris and Versailles in case he needed to preserve the monarchy by force.
· -The National Assembly thought the king would use violence to end their meetings. so the people of paris armed themselves in case of any violent action the king might take.
· -On July 14, 1789, a mob of Parisians went to an ancient prison in Bastille to look for weapons.
· -The mob tried to negotiate the commander for weapons. When negotiations broke down, the angry mob went into the prison and killed the commander, stuck his head on a long stick, and paraded it through the streets.
· -This became a powerful symbol of the French Revolution.
