Critical Reflection Paper on Social Networking Essay Example
Identity theft is one of the major concerns with utilizing social networks. The Internet is powerful because it serves as an almost limitless storehouse of data and ideas, but it also can be dangerous because it can store misinformation that masquerades as fact. (Mark D. Bowles, 2010) I think once you enter into the Internet Highway one has to sacrifice a little security. Even inaccurate information can be reported about a person. If you are not concerned about someone finding out personal things about you, then this avenue of networking is perfect for you. If someone wants to be un- reachable or lost, then these are not the sites for them. With these social networks, one can find a lot about a person. What schools they attended, their spouse names, their children’s names and where about, what city they live in and their age. They can also find tune that person’s interest. However, there is an advantage to these social networks. People like to buy from people they know. Connecting socially through these networks allows people free advertising. This advertising is geared toward pacific people, people like themselves. Network sites like these are unsecure for a reason, and I believe it is for the openness. People like to know who other people’s friends are, what they are into and what they have accomplished. It’s easy to find someone if you search for them on FaceBook. It seems everyone who’s anyone is on those sites. It’s a great place to network.

Email is not dead for teenagers. People don’t use it as much as they did in the past. It is really strange to see technology evolve so fast that here we are posing the question and answering the question about emails, and about whether or not emails are dead or not. My son is 20 years old. He still uses his email, not as much as I do. He does know it’s worth. A Person may Instant Message another and they text and tweet each other and still the email is not dead. Email allows one to have contacts, and email acts a s a

A significant social trend in our generation’s youth was the explosion of the social networking sites. From the first social networking site started back in 1995 social networking was introduced by AOL (America Online). Shortly after it was followed by Classmates.com in 1997; moreover, social networking had began it 's peak with Blackplanet.com bring in 3 million users then Friendster was born in 2002, not long after Linkedin was created in 2003 bring in 30 million members. Meanwhile MySpace.com hit the networking in 2003 tripling Linkedin 's users. Finally Facebook.com was created in 2004 but only for Harvard college students then two years later Facebook was launched to the public and today Facebook has 150 million members. Facebooks model is to promote honesty and openness. Christopher Nickson inaaccurately states in his article that “It seems people really enjoy beings themselves, and throwing that openness out there for all to see” (Nickson1). Nickson does not see that online people are allowed to put whatever they want other to see and think about their life. Such sites allow people to be…

There are three different social media networks that I have used ,still use, and one that I have not used myself. MySpace is one of the ones that really got social media networking to where it is now. I used to use MySpace to talk to friends, share pictures, listen to music, and share my blogs. These were the main functions that I used MySpace for. MySpace was one of the first big steps that lead other social media networking where it is. Being able to interact with your friends and family in a virtual world is a big success to being able to so be many places at once. Facebook is another social media networking tool that took the world by surprise and has also took over MySpace users. With Facebook you are able to share photos, express what is on your mind with your friends and family, write messages between you and others, and stay connected with people all over the world. Facebook came and conquered most of, if not all, social media networking web sites. The main thing that separated Facebook from any other social media web site is that it was made for college students. Little by little it became so popular that everyone wanted to be a part of this network. Businesses really took advantage of the social networking site for advertising. With so many advertising competitors on the network, it is hard for users not to take advantage of the products advertised. Businesses even have commercials that tell to “like” them on Facebook to ensure the attention of the social media users. The latest installment to the social media networking web sites that I have not used is Twitter. Twitter is different in its own way for various reasons. Twitter allows people to, share their posts or “tweets” with all of their friends at once or certain people that want to see your posts. Everything that you can do in the other two social networking sites is done completely different in the Twitter world. When you add friends they are either…

Twitter and Facebook are only two of the online connections people use today to stay in contact with friends and family. The internet is a place to interact with new people and a way to be exposed to strangers. The partial anonymity available online can be used as a mask for sexual offenders and psychos; they can appear to be ordinary normal people, and you have no way of really knowing what is the truth and what is a lie. Too much personal information is at risk on these social networking sites. You can 't really build a relationship with an online friend because on the internet…

Social networking websites are the most visited websites on a daily basis. Posting all your information on your profile puts your own security and private information online. Numerous sites, such as Facebook and MySpace, exist so that people can communicate with everyone from different countries. Here is the most surreptitious thing you might not know about the people on social networking sites: They are using pictures and uploading them to porn sites. A picture of you stolen by porn site creators for their website puts your privacy at risk. Remember once it is on the internet, it stays there forever; leaving a mark behind.…

Powerful new Social Networks provide great benefits, but they also change the way we live and not always in ways that everyone like. An example is the spread of air conditioning, which makes us more comfortable, but those who grew up before the invention speak fondly of a time when everyone sat on the front porch and talked to their neighbors rather than going indoors to stay cool and watch TV. Information processing and communication represents a powerful new technology, with social networking as the most recent service to be provided for free. It can be expected to bring pluses and minuses.…

Social network users claim a loss of privacy. Privacy is not something that any social network user should expect as they themselves should be protecting anything they intend to keep private. Their claim may be supported by reports about internet privacy and/or the loss of said privacy. “In recent months, the issue of privacy on social networking sites has come to the forefront as a result of the media controversy surrounding the social networking site Facebook.” (O’Brien, D. & Torres, A. M., 2012). Users show a growing fear of a lack of privacy online, and though there should be concern, the media seems to feed their fear. There are always internet myths, news stories, and plain rumors of privacy loss; many of these are convincing and easily believed by today’s user.…

First and Foremost the main issue in dealing with social Networks is that they lead to harmful internet dating. There are plenty of instances in the new where a person either does not appear as he or she appears to be on line or where the person wants to meet up in persona and the results can be dangerous. For example on T.V there is a new popular show called “Catfish”, basically this show focuses on the truths and lies about internet dating. During the series of this show, there have been instances where two individuals have met up and person and in almost every case one or both of the two individuals who were dating have not appeared to be who he or he was pretending to be over the internet. A "catfish" is a person who creates fake profiles online and pretends…

This yearning for technology can be good or destructive for people. For example, some people “fear that sexual predators will befriend unsuspecting teenagers via Facebook or MySpace. Others point to the possibility of identity theft and believe that social networking sites might erode real-life friendships or cause obesity” (Introduction to Are Social Networking Sites Harmful?: At Issue). Some parents have created fake social media accounts and have tried to befriend their children to see if their children would add a complete stranger on social media.…

Online social networking is when people connect with other people online through certain websites. I believe the most common websites today include Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. What people do is create their own profile account, and post information, photos, videos, and comments. Those things then get reserved on a news-feed for your whole fan base to see. I believe that the good of social networking far outweighs the bad. It seems to me that if you have internet and know how to use a computer, you probably have either created a Facebook or Twitter account. Social networking has so many positive ways to the user. Due to the connection with friends and family, meeting new people, raising self-esteem,and information being able to spread fast, are the reasons why online social networking is acceptable.…

One of the problems is litigations. A litigation is the action of taking legal action. As more people are sharing their world on social media, they are putting themselves at a higher risk of someone taking them to court. In court, they can take something that was posted on social media and use it against that person. Very rarely the things that person said in court went against what they had posted on their social media account. An example of this happened in 2008. A person did not pay their mortgage lender. This person changed their phone number and their job, but did not change the privacy settings on their Facebook account. One of the person's friends added a picture of them with a location. The lender then tracked this person using their Facebook account and gave them lawsuit papers…

While the advantages seem great, there are also some disadvantages that come with easily obtainable information. Some of those disadvantages are theft of personal information, accuracy, and viruses. Sometimes when you are searching for things, or finding things online, they will ask for personal information, such as social security number, credit card number, or even little things like full name and address. When you enter that information in, it opens an opportunity for hackers to get a hold of your information and use it. Also going on web pages searching for things opens your computer up for viruses. Many websites are notorious for sending adware, viruses and also other malicious software that can slow the computer and in some cases even harm it considerably. (Ambekar 2008) This leads to the next thing, accuracy. When you find information online, you have to make sure is reliable and accurate. Anyone can write or post something on the internet, so you always check to make sure what you are reading is coming from a reliable source. Other social media network that has become popular over the past few years is Facebook and Twitter. Both of them have been a hug hit over the years Facebook is on mainly for family and friend making it easier to stay in touch. Twitter is used for mainly the actors, famous athletes, television shows and etc. Either of them can be used to help promote and advertise some one’s personal business or job.…

After watching the movie The Social Network, the first thing I did was to search for Mark Zuckerberg’s real life experiences to see which parts are facts and which are fictions. As a matter of fact, this Harvard genius that founded the world’s first social network was not as childish as the movie portrayed. At least he didn’t write programming for getting into elite Harvard “Final Clubs” or for retaliating his girlfriend. During Mark’s high school, Microsoft and AOL tried to purchase the music player that he built and also invited him to join them. However, Mark decided to enroll in Harvard for further education. From where I stand, although the movie is fictional, it can easily perk up the ears of the public and provoke independent thoughts and discussions. And for Mark Zuckerberg and the Facebook itself, it can be a special opportunity for them to publicize their company and let people learn more about the true meaning of their website which means it’s worth fictionalizing the episodes through film creation.…
