SS 100 WRITING & COMMUNICATION Spring 2014
Sections 1 - 15

Essay 2 Critique

Select one of the articles*, read it carefully and then critique it in the form of an academic essay.

Please remember that the purpose of the critique is to analyze & interpret a text in terms of its strengths & weaknesses and to respond to the writer’s views – keeping in mind the rhetorical situation i.e. purpose, audience & context of the text to be critiqued.

A critique is not the same as criticism therefore it does not necessarily have to be negative.
Please ensure that your essay is logically organized, with a thesis statement in the introduction and well-structured paragraphs. You must also smoothly integrate all quotations, acknowledge the sources and provide a works cited page according to the MLA Citation Style. Word Limit: 1800 - 2000

Remember that your critique should be coherent, so you do not necessarily have to treat the assessment component and response component as separate sections in the body of your essay. You may also enhance your essay’s coherence by clearly identifying your topic of discussion, sequencing your topics of discussion in a logical order, and using transitional phrases and sentences to connect your ideas—especially as you move from one paragraph to another.…
