My primary thought about deviance is anything has bad influence or negative effect to the society. However, After I watched this movie and complete the paper, I was shocked by people from poor neigborhood grow up with guns and gangs. Also, join the gang is an necessary things to do in their lives, because that could provides them money and also protect themselves. As I mentioned in my paper, the main character, Caine, who grows up in the African American community feels the disconnect with the society, and according to the control theory, the disconnect makes Caine become a member of gangsters. According to the rational-choice theory, the reason why the those people in the moive would choose join the gangster instead of continue going to school, it is because that if they choose join the gangster, they can protect themselves in that community and they can have money at tha same time. One of the scene could relate to that is when Caine buys a new car, he robbers someone else tires and auto parts from the car and the decision of him joining the gang shows that he gain money and power in his…

This theory was developed with the Chicago school of criminology during the 1920’s and 1930’s (Schlmalleger 156). It also states that conflicts will occur when a groups, such as Italian immigrant families, is faced with social change, uneven development and lack of consensus. When faced with the challenge of this new world, these families saw fit to acquire wealth in a way familiar to them. The mafia was a type of group that individuals would identify themselves with and they created their own set of norms. In cultural deviance theory, these norms are never violated (Lombardo 16). While the mob saw the actions as acceptable or normal, outsiders saw their actions as social deviance and this is where conflict occurs. These Criminals were well-socialized members of the groups they identified with (Lombardo 16). The common people behave in accordance with the group or in this case, country that they live in. They have the power to incorporate their values into the law and if these rules are in conflict with that of these Italian mob groups, then crime will occur (Lombardo 16). With the opportunity that presented its self at the beginning of prohibition, these families took advantage of the wants of Chicago in order to gain power and…
Pease (1994) said, ‘Crime comprises those actions which are deemed so damaging to the interest of the community that the state determines that it must take a direct role in identifying and acting against the criminal.’ Downes and Rock (1998) said ‘Deviance may be considered as banned or controlled behaviour which is likely to attract punishment or disproval.’ In short, ‘Deviance’ is a asocial construct that can change across time and place and ‘Crime’ is an action that breaks the law.…
"Organized crime," as commonly understood today, is identical with economic enterprise organized for the purpose of conducting illegal activities and which, when in pursuit of legitimate ventures, uses illegal methods. These illegal business enterprises exist to cater to human sins- gambling, drinking, sex, narcotics-proscribed by law (Stellin 2009).…

Violence is one of the most obsessed concepts in society and will always be a current topic of interest. People are infatuated with crime and the media takes advantage of it. When media presents violent topics, it somehow cures many people’s urges to be violent, these people we would deem as the social norm. Everyday people living an everyday life, they have urges to be violent but they don’t act upon them. That is a rather general idea of the social norm, since the concept of normal changes within different cultures. A deviant person is one who is departing from usual or accepted standards. There is something that is off about them as a person, and they don’t necessarily fit in with the social norm. A serial killer, for example, would be deemed deviant. Obviously serial killers are different, because they go around killing people however, the media finds different negative features to enhance the issue or form a reason as to why they would kill certain people. The media basically labels them as an outcast by saying they were deviant before they started killing, and then go on to blame killings on their deviant characteristic.…
Organized crime has played a big role in shaping America’s history today. Organized crime, as we know it today is a group of individuals who work together to gain a profit through illegal and often violent methods. This can be traced back to the New York street gangs of the 1800’s. Groups such as the Forty Thieves in New York formed as hundreds of immigrants came together for their own protection and financial gain. These people thought they could only rely on each other and saw organized crime as a way to improve their lives and find protection from other gangs and corrupt police officers. The Forty Thieves were made up of Irish-Americans who lived in slums and worked for low wage. These gangs would get involved in various including politics.…
Organized crime can be broken down into two basic models. One being the bureaucratic model, and the other being the patron-client model. These two models have some things in common with each other, and they also have a few differences. The big similarities is that the bureaucratic model uses a strict set of rules to run their organization by. The patron-client model does not have such a strict set of rules, but instead they have a set of values of traditions. This in turn gives them a similarity because it builds a network where there is a sort of rank structure. Another similarity of these two is that both use criminal acts, and people with skills to be good at criminal acts to obtain money and power.…
Deviance is a violation to social norms, or at least every-changing social norm according to Professor Aguilera. Deviance can very well be over looked, for example not everyone is going to make a big deal out of a women who decides to keep her maiden name after getting married. This is still a deviant act, because she broke a common social norm. Not every deviant act is essentially bad in other areas, because they have or believe in different social norms. There are theories that realize the reward in deviance and some that believe that deviance is the only way to succeed. The theories they I will compare and contract are, The Strain Theory, The Rational Choice Theory, and The Differential Association Theory. I will use these theories by giving…
