A Tale of Two Cities is "a dark one, filled with images of horror and destruction, of dirt and disease, of imprisonment and violent death." Critic Peter Ackroyd believes that A Tale of Two Cities is a dark book that is filled with shadows everywhere, only gets is small illumination in the depths of the French Revolution. He believes that there are many ways in which the book shows the “bright light” in the French Revolution and its dark shadows. One is by Doctor Manette’s life, "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known."
I have to write a paper and I need to quotes that Sydney Carton says or does.
I need one for:
Courage, when he took Darnays place at the gulliotine.
Wisdom, when he went to the chemist to get the smelly stuff.
Loyalty, to Lucie and her family.

I looked and looked for these and i couldnt find some. I even did sparknotes.Courage:

"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known."

Part 3, chapter 15 (Sydney's thoughts before his death)

Wisdom:

This one is really difficult, but I'll take a stab at it.

Sydney keeps repeating this quote over and over after his visit to the chemist's shop and in connection with the hard life he has lived and his father's death:

"I am the Resurrection and the Life, saith the Lord: he that believeth on me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth on me, shall never die."

I think this part might represent it, because he's finally starting to become wise and gain courage and trying to make up for his wasted life.

Loyalty:

"For you and any dear to you, I would to anything."

Part 2, chapter 13 (Sydney says this to Lucie)
