Dogs Are Better Pets Than Cats; Formal Debate Essay Example
My partner ________ and I stand in strong affirmation of the resolution, resolved: Dogs are better than cats. My partner and I find it necessary to give you the following definitions we define dogs as a domesticated canid, Canis familiaris, bred in many varieties. We define better as: of superior suitability, advisability, desirability, acceptableness, etc.; preferable. Our Three main points are: Dogs are more loyal, dogs save lives, and Dogs are man’s best friend.
On to my first point that dogs are more loyal: it is a scientific fact that dogs are more loyal than cats. It is an instinct for dogs to obey the pack leader, which in this case would be the family. Cats however do not possess this instinct, and in fact, they believe they are the most important thing in the household and do not posess the instinct of loyalty that loving spot has. Not only do dogs respect you they also do very valuable work such as seeing eye, law enforcement, military, farmwork, and to top it off free guard service. Conclusion: Dogs have owners, cats have staff.
My second point is that dogs save lives. This is not a rarity as many of you may think. Dogs save so many lives in fact there is an award ceremony that only dogs that save lives can attend. Let me reiterate that, they have about a hundred dogs that are heroes and they pick the most outstanding cases. One such case is Indy whom not only did the vigilant dog wake his family when a fire had engulfed half of their house in time to save a child from an exploding window, Indy also led the family to the safest exit, saving them from downed power lines. Now that I have proven to you that dogs save lives now lets go on to a story about a family of cats who chose a different path to tred. These cats were owned by 86 year old Mae; one day Mae had a stroke. As Mae lay unconscious for nearly a week her 7 cats begin to knaw, scratch and eat her not to death though she was saved by a fire department, who by the way owned a Dalmatian. Now

Talk about why so many people have dogs for pets because dogs are very useful for the jobs they can do, so many have dogs for another family member, and dogs help kids. The first quote form “How the Wolf Became the Dog” talks about why owners have dogs for pets because of how helpful they can be.”Dogs were valued mainly for the jobs they could do” (Albee and Tarshis 25). The quote from Tarshis and Albee prove that dog owners have dogs for pets and not cats because dogs are used for the jobs they can do and help with. “Wolves are the dogs that stayed behind.” The world is a cruel place. A thing that can be treasured in one instance can be a threat in the next. For many people, we stare at the natural world and see its rugged beauty and wish that we could captivate it for ourselves. The case is no different for our modern dogs. Bred from the “empty canvas” of a wolf, we’ve modified, altered, formed, transformed, reformed, and remodified wolves to be one of the closest companions we have still today: dogs. But through all of our perfecting and reshaping that we’ve done to our best friends’ closest ancestors, wolves have prevailed, echoing their famous legacy still throughout the world. Wolves, now in danger of extinction, are one of the greatest controversies…

“And very little is known about these free-ranging, village dogs.” His team rectified that by collecting blood samples from 549 village dogs in 38 countries across 6 continents. “I did my Ph.D. work with tropical butterflies; by comparison, working with dogs is fantastic,” he adds. “You don’t need to hunt them down with a net. You show up, you have food, there are dogs.” (http://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2015/10/genetic-study-writes-yet-another-origin-story-for-dogs/411196/) Dogs have always been considered “Mans Best Friend.” However that title has barely lived up to it’s name when there are still dogs all around the world that get abused and murdered by their owners. Dogs who get dropped off in the middle of nowhere because their owners just can’t keep up with them anymore. Dogs who are euthanized because they’ve been in the pound so long and there is no hope for them to ever be rescued, may that be because of old age or even a history of biting people. Dogs are not born monsters, humans created the idea. Dogs may hurt you because of their past experiences with lousy…

Did you know that there are over 2.4 million healthy dogs and cats in shelters? Did you also know that one every thirteen seconds are euthanized ("Pet Overpopulation: The Humane Society of the United States")? There is a great deal of controversy concerning wolf dogs. While one group advocates the cross-breeding of dogs and wolves, another large portion of the population continues to be concerned over the breeding of wild, undomesticated animals for the purpose of producing pets suitable for close relationships with people. I readily admit that I have great temptation of the ownership of a wolf dog but am concerned of people not fully educated and experienced in wild animal behaviour, and the complicated relationship with humans. My concern is not only for the two-legged community within which the animal is expected to exist, but also with the quality of life for an animal more suited to the wild.…

Domestication is the change of an organism on the genetic level to better suit human needs, humans began this practice for thousands of years ago and it continues today but at a significantly lower rate. As observed by Francis Galton, the British scientist, “It would appear that every wild animal has had its chance of being domesticated, that [a] few… were domesticated long ago, but that the large remainder, who failed sometimes in only one small particular, are destined to perpetual wildness.” (as cited in Diamond, 1998, p. 165). As social life has changed and the demands on newly domesticated would have shifted, it is possible that new species are candidates for domestication in the near future.…

Everybody loves going to the circus. How cool is it to see the ravenous tiger jump through a hoop of fire, the little monkey juggle, or see puppies do all kinds of tricks? People enjoy good entertainment, especially when it comes to animals being involved. Not only can they be used for satisfying the public, but they can also be useful to human resources, such as to the blind, deaf, or disabled.
