E-Bones Homework Assignment

The website I used for this assignment is great. You can pick on any part of the skeleton you want and find out what bones are in that part of the body. Clicking on the part of the skeleton you want to observe there is a list of the bones in that part of the body. The name of this website is eSkeleton. This site was produced by the faculty, staff, and students at The University of Texas-Austin. This website shows you the different skeleton of different primates.
I learned a lot of information from this website; that being how closely related humans are with the gorilla and chimpanzee, the names of the bones our skeleton is made up of, and the size of certain bones in the body. I learned a lot of new things as well; the hands and feet of an adult male human and an adult male chimpanzee are very similar. Both hands contain capitate, hamate, lunate, manual intermediate phalanx 3, manual proximal phalanx 3, metacarpals 1-5, pisiform, scaphoid, trapezium, trapezoid, and triquetral. Both feet contain calcaneus, cuboid, intermediate cuneiform, lateral cuneiform, medial cuneiform, metatarsals 1-5, pedal proximal phalanx 1 and 5, and talus. The only differences in the hands and feet are that the chimps have more bones in both plus the bones are longer. The thing that caught my attention the most was the similarity in the skeletons between the chimps and humans. The skeletons are practically identical: skull, rib cage, arms, hands, feet, legs, etc. This site is easy to use. All you have to do is hover the mouse over whatever primate you want to use; after you do that click on the part of the skeleton you want to observe, and then click on the bone you want to see. Above where the bone picture appears you can look at the bones from different angles by clicking on the different names above it. This website is so user friendly that high school and college students can both use it. It isn’t to complex that if it is your first time using that you’ll have no idea what you’re doing. After a few minutes it’ll come to you and you’ll know what to do. I love this website, without it I know it’ll be way more difficult finding out how similarities between primates. This is very helpful in resource in helping you compare and contrast the differences between these different primates. It also helps you identify the bones that are located in the skeleton. I will use this website again in the future for this course and projects throughout my college experience. It’s a great resource to use when looking at bones for assignments, projects and studying for exams.
