Eat Out or Eat Home Essay Example
Question 6: Some people believe to spend most of their time alone. Others like to be with friends most of the time. Do you prefer to spend your time alone or with friends? Use specific reasons to support your answer.

Nutrition and Health was an elective subject I took in high school. This subject taught me how to maintain a balance diet and do proper exercise. Once, there was an interesting topic discussed in the class: Eat out or eat at home. At that time, I considered the first option is better. However, if I choose again, I’d like to eat my own food at home.

I realize that having meals at home is much more beneficial than eating out at restaurants or food stands. Firstly, eating at home is one of the essential ways to keep fit and stay healthy. As I am not busy as a beaver, I can spend up to ten minutes to make a shopping list before going to supermarket. Keeping this way, it does not only allow me to save time in preparation of meals but also give me an opportunity to eat fresh food everyday. Even though I am not a trained cook, my meals are adequately prepared to provide enough vitamins and nutrition so that I am healthy to work and study. Inevitably, I and my family are sometimes too busy to cook our own meals; we go out wondering about the origin of food used at the restaurants.

Secondly, eating together with the whole family at home creates a cozy atmosphere. This is also a nice image in my culture which should be conserved. I am happy that each member in my family has basic skills of cooking so that we are alternatively responsible for day meals. Gathering at the dinner table, we are funny amusing food critics who enjoy the meal and share our daytime stories with one another. I guess having dinner out would never create a comfortable feeling along with peals of laughter as eating at home.

Each way of eating has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, eating at home seems to have more advantages that its disadvantages. It helps us build a

In “Is Junk Food Really Cheaper?” By Mark Bittman, Bittman is expressing his views on how eating wholesome meals at home is healthier and less expensive than buying junk food from fast food restaurants. In his article, Bittman is stating the facts that healthy eating is affordable and can be obtained. He writes about how buying meals for a family of four from a fast food restaurant like McDonald’s can cost twice or even triple the amount as eating a simple and healthier meal at home. Brittman says that buying chicken, vegetables with a salad and milk will cost very little and if you substitute that for a healthier low sodium meal you can save even more. People need to realize there is a way to change our terrible eating habits.…

    "The Cooking Animal"

In “The Coking Animal”, the author, Michael Pollan, gives his opinion and observations on the American food system. Pollan links the facts that since we look for the most convenient and least time-consuming way to get food, we often intake more calories, sugar, fat, and salts, which are substances our bodies are automatically bound to like. After examining my own eating habits, I realized that these conclusions made by the author are merely accurate. When I am crunched for time, what do I usually decide to eat? The answer is simple: something fast, cheap, and appetizing. If you think about it, what is fast, cheap, and appetizing is normally not healthy, but on the contrary, food that is time-consuming to make, more expensive than fast food, and only sometimes enticing, is the type of nutrition that we, as humans need. Another point that is closely related with the food we eat is the people we eat it with. Looking at myself, I normally have meals with people. I think it is fun to go out and have lunch or dinner with friends. Usually, if I am going to spend the night with a friend, we meet up at a restaurant for dinner and then go to one or the other’s house. I personally believe that eating alone and not socializing causes one to eat more than what he or she would usually eat while spending time and socializing with another person. In conclusion, the mindset and desire of the people of America is going to have to change for the better if we want our nation as a whole to become a healthier one.…

Our society has changed over the past 40 years. Everyone is busier with their families, church, careers, sports or other extracurricular activities. We have become so busy it is easier to grab food on the go, between children’s schedules, personal responsibilities, or whatever the situation. Cooking and family meals do not happen as often, if ever. The effects of continuous eating on the run are hazardous to our health. Consistent greasy foods can clog arteries, high salt intake causes blood pressure problems, and the biggest effect of all is obesity.…

There was a time when most people made their meals from scratch. Families sat down together around the table and ate homemade low processed foods. However, our society has changed greatly over the years. Very few households have time to prepare family style dinners and instead rely heavily on sources that offer fast effortless meals. Regrettably, parents are not always home and therefore cannot supervise what their children are eating at mealtime. Pantries are filled with junk food while family freezers are stocked with microwavable, processed foods. Inevitably, children are fending for themselves and end up consuming foods that will be, more than likely, high in fat, sugar, and…

Family dinner is a special time when every family member stops what they are doing to spend quality time with one another. It is a time when we would catch up with each other and find out what everyone did during the day. We all had such busy schedules that the time spent together during dinner was one of the few times throughout the day that we were all able to be together as a family. There is nothing that can substitute for quality family time and that has been one of the biggest things that I have noticed since I started college. Time spent at dinner, no matter how miniscule it felt at the time, was one of the most significant events in my daily routine while I lived at home. College life has entirely changed the way that I eat. The most significant difference, personally, has been dinner time.…

Michael Pollan’s article The Cooking Animal, describes the decline of home cooked meals and its effects. Cooking, he says, is what separates us from animals. It’s how we became civilized. By making us come together and share food, we learn about each other and ourselves. Although its importance, cooking is rapidly declining in modern times. What was once a daily ritual is now becoming a special occasion. Replacing cooking is convenient, yet horribly unhealthy, processed foods thus worsening the already increasing obesity problem. ”The more time a nation devotes to food preparation at home, the lower its rate of obesity” (Pollan 583). Pollan explains the importance of home cooked meals and it’s correlation with obesity and how we have fallen in the trap of the corporations. He explains how the mass producers made hard to make meals cheap, processed, and convenient leaving us to be forever doomed unless we made dire changes. Pollen raises many thoughts and facts about the importance of home cooked meals, all of which I completely agree with.…

People blame fast food restaurants that they are offering unhealthy foods to the public. However, this is not the case since fast foods are healthy, but when taken in large quantities and on a regular basis, they may have adverse effects on one’s body. In turn, this makes it the people’s responsibility to watch the amount of fast foods they ingest. Moreover, one is not forced to eat from their vast menu of fast foods in the various restaurants. Hence, people have a choice on whether to take in fast foods or neglect the temptation and eat home cooked meals (Rose web).…
