Part 1: Living in a diverse world
1. What is meant by diversity? Valuing and respecting differences in people, regardless of their gender, race, religion, socio-economic groups, age culture, values or beliefs. Although everyone in a group may appear the same or share the same beliefs, each person is unique and has their own qualities and values that will make them different from all others. Their right to be different should be respected.
2. Describe the community you live in. Highlight some of the variations you may observe in terms of :
I live in a small town in the Black Country which is in the West Midlands, it is a market town which can be traced back to pre-Medieval times and is mentioned in the Dooms Day Book. It is home to a diverse cultural and ethnic mix of people, there are areas of wealth and sadly areas which suffer from poverty. The local Council is carrying out a regeneration programme to benefit the areas which have less advantages. There is considerable unemployment in the area, also a high number of retired people. The demography of the area is multi-cultural there are people who have originated from different countries, ethnic backgrounds and cultures, this is now growing as there is an
