According to Ruther, “Creation stories not only reflect current science, that is, the assumptions about the nature of the world physical processes, and their relationships; but they are also blueprints for society” (15). Christian…
The theory of evolution holds, not necessarily that man somehow descended from any kind of ape or monkey, but rather that probably he and they have arrived from a common ancestry.…
The question has existed throughout time: how was the earth created and where did we humans come from? In modern times, society has the benefit of science and technology. We can take a bone sample and deconstruct it's DNA or chemically discover it's age. Through studying biological material, chemistry, and the laws of physics modern day scientist can gain an idea of our human/earthly origins. This technology was obviously not always available and before them existed the creation myths of the world. Through reading these myths, there are a number of concepts that consistently appear through each one of them. Although these myths are from different cultures across the world and through different time periods, many still repeat similar themes…
Creation myths are one of the most highly valued myths because the myth itself gives purpose to its culture’s existence through its interpretation of the specific creation of human beings.…
Christians: They believe in Biblical creationism; all organisms created as they are by God, no change over timeChinese: Believe the first organism was P'an Ku, who evolved in a giant cosmic egg. All elements of the universe were in the egg, all mixed. In the egg, he separated the opposites, then 18,000 years later the egg hatched, and P'an Ku died from the effort of creation.…
I was taught that humans came to be by evolution. Charles Darwin was a 19th century British naturalist who came up with the theory of evolution, which is evolution from simple forms of life to complex forms of life. Evolution is the change in the inherited characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. Evolutionary processes give rise to diversity at every level of biological organization, including species, individual organisms and molecules such as DNA and proteins. I also believe in the thought of “survival of the fittest.” This shows that the strongest animals survive and adapt best to their environment.…
A central organizing concept in biology is that life changes and develops through evolution, and that all life-forms known have a common origin. The theory of evolution postulates that all organisms on the Earth, both living and extinct, have descended from a common ancestor or an ancestral gene pool. This last universal common ancestor of all organisms is believed to have appeared about 3.5 billion years ago.[21] Biologists generally regard the universality and ubiquity of the genetic code as definitive evidence in favor of the theory of universal common descent for all bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes (see: origin of life).[22]…
Where do we come from? This question has disturbed mankind for generations. For a couple thousand years the answer to this question could be found in the Creationist theory. The Bible tells of how 6,000 years ago God created Earth and all its living creatures in seven days. Then in the nineteenth century Charles Darwin published his findings about his theory of evolution in his book On the Origin of Species. This perturbed religious groups and took until the twentieth century to become more widely accepted. The most recent event surrounding this controversy came in a federal court case about the Dover, Pennsylvania school board dilemma on whether to also allow intelligent design to be taught in Biology classrooms. It laid down the platform for various arguments of both the Evolutionists and Intelligent Design theorists. In order to form opinions and solid judgment about these two theories people must form attitudes through various means. Attitudes of intelligent design supporters become clouded and modified by emotion, prior beliefs, ideologies, values, and the mass media, which prove to exhibit good and bad judgment.…
There is a theory that humans descended from an earlier, lower form of life. There is an assortment of evidence that shows that all living creatures on Earth descended from a common ancestry. Evolution doesnt discriminate against humans. It is believed that we too are a product of an earlier predecessor. The similarities in all life are evident if you consider that every form of life builds from the same building blocks--20 essential amino acids, four nitrogen bases, and simple sugars. Each of Earths past and present forms of life are, or were composed of a combination of those building blocks called RNA or DNA. In the very beginning of life on Earth, the genetic structure was very simple, but as time has gone by, the best combinations in the…
The Christian worldview of origin is that God created man and even before man, God had created the Earth. We believe that science is relevant, but that is not how living things became to be. It tells us this in Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:27 (KJV), this is why we believe that God created mankind. One must understand that there are more miraculous reasons for our existence and God is the miracle.…
How do we as humans work, think, feel, communicate, celebrate, fashion objects, and reshape our world?…
Whatever we see, we and other primates are evidence for evolution. However, humans are not descended from monkeys or any other primate living today. We share a common ape ancestor with chimpanzees and bonobos.…
"The fact of evolution is the backbone of biology, and biology is thus in the peculiar position of being a science founded on an improved theory, is it then a science or faith?" Charles Darwin…
Throughout history, every society has had some form of myths that have significance or reasoning behind why they have been shared with society. Whether it is myth designed to teach a valuable lesson or a myth that explains something as simple as why the seasons change the way that they do, to these societies they all have played some sort of purpose in explaining why life is the way that it is for them. But while these myths cover that wide range of topics, there is only one myth that can hold distinction of explaining where life itself came from: the creation myth. These are myths that are unique to every culture, society, and religion known to mankind because without them people would not have understood where they and all the living things in the world came from. Two examples of these myths are the Mesopotamian creation myth and the Hebrew creation…
Many people believe Evolution should only be taught in schools because it is a scientific theory and does not involve people’s religious issues. Yet, there is a certain amount of faith involved in just believing that we possibly mutated or evolved. And this thought that we all evolved from one organism is very difficult for many to grasp. Most people wonder well if we mutated from this organism where did this organism come from and how did it get there? A famous scientist Charles Darwin suggests that “The development of life was from nonlife according to ‘Natural Selection’”. Meaning that over thousands or millions of years, genetic mutation has allowed certain species to grow and prosper; while others became weak and didn’t survive. But how do we explain life from nonlife? There has yet to be any life created out of nothing. Scientist have had a problem finding a transitional to support their theory. And the Theory of Evolution is continually changing over time because their evidence does not all line up. So why should we only teach that in our schools? Yes it is a huge possibility of how the universe may have been created; yet, it is not the only possibility.…
