Sterotypes are standardized and simplified conceptions of group based assumptions derived from prior experiednces. Sterotyping is a natural process ; when it becomes inflexible to change with introduction of new information, we call it bias,predjuice, sexism, or racism. Sterotyping is not only hurtful but can lead to a world of hate. Often, the cause is over looked, even though we see it face to face everyday. It seems to follow us throughout our lives, starting from birth into childhood, the teens , onto adulthood, ending in our elder years. It's no mystery that sterotyping is hurtful and can lead to a world of hate. Overlooking sterotyping when it happens is the reason it is so openly used. Let's begin at birth, as soon as we are born we hear it's a boy or it's a girl. Then they throw either a pink or blue outfit on us. Then we are given toys that pertain to a certain gender. For example, girls get baby dolls and tea sets as to where boys get building blocks and tools. Dividing us into two groups, girls on this side and boys on that side. Somewhere it was translated that boys were rough and tough and girls where sweet and neat. Reminds me of that riddle, " What Are Little Boys And Girls Made Of". I believe this to be where gender comes into play. The most important , teenage years; hurtful sterotypes begin here basicly. Sterotypes such as geek, nerd, skater, stuck up, fat and outcast just to name a few. This is when sterotyping can influence a person the most . I believe how a person takes the sterotyping can result in their going on to college and obtaining a career. Which leads us to the life of an adult. Sterotypes such as men are strong and do all the work, men are the "backbone" , and men are messy. For women we hear, women are not as smart as men, women should know their place is at home barefoot and pregnant because women can't do the job like a man can. Sterotypes such as these can lead to depression and is the main reason why the divorce rate is so high, failed expections. As far as our elder years, we are at the most peaceful time in our lives just to but cut down by sterotypical words such as slow, smelly, crazy, mean and old. Another leading cause of depression .
