His name is Mason Jones. Most of his friends call him Jones, because he plays football and that’s the name on the back of his jersey. As you could probably already understand, Mason gets in a lot of trouble here at Ocean View School for Boys. There was this one event, on teacher appreciation week, where he presented Mrs. Wilson a “caramel apple”, it actually was coated in light brown glue. Another experience was when his social studies teacher left the…
In "Teach Like Your Hair is on Fire" by Rafe Esquith, the author shares his experiences and insights gained from over 30 years of teaching in a challenging, low-income neighborhood in Los Angeles. Esquith's dedication to his students and innovative teaching methods offer valuable lessons for educators seeking to make a meaningful impact in their classrooms. Several key points stand out as I reflect on the book and its connection to this week's module theme of current issues and trends in education. Firstly, Esquith's emphasis on fostering a culture of respect, discipline, and high expectations resonates with current trends in education focused on social-emotional learning and positive classroom culture. Creating a safe and inclusive classroom…
Most people hear about sudden plane crashes or news about people lost at sea and believe it’s all for attention and money. But, whenever reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, your thoughts might change traumatically and think about reality a little bit better than before. In this adventurous book a boy named Brian Roberson gets caught in the middle of a plane crash, landing somewhere in the extensive woods of the Canadian forest, due to the sudden heart attack of the only pilot on the plane. Brian is left with nothing except the Hatchet his mother gave him and the many remnants of his windbreaker. Though he experiences major hardships, Brian still manages to survive in the dangerous, large forest by reflecting on his previous knowledge. As I go back and read over all the extraordinary things Brian achieved and all of the things he could do that I couldn’t, I came to the results that I wouldn’t be able to survive in the forest for over 54 days.…
June 28, 2013 in Yarnell, Arizona a wildfire was ignited by lightning. With the Prescott Fire Department 's elite of “Hotshots” were called to fight the fire, as they have done many times before. But as the group of Hotshots stood their ground attempting to protect the city of Yarnell Hill, AZ from the roaring fire, the huge gusts of wind blew the fire past the group of firemen closing the fire in around them. With nineteen of the twenty elite firemen taking cover under their fire resistant blankets, which is only done as a last resort for any firemen, they were killed by the huge wildfire. The wildfire was eventually put out on July 11, 2013.…
That was one of Craig’s dream profession's when growing up. He later decided it would be hard since he is bad with blood. Mrs. Nasvik, Craig’s mother, had always told him he was going to be a teacher when he grew up. He became a teacher’s assistant his senior year of college. He thought it was a good experience because he was almost teaching students of his own age. This was a reason that confirmed his path into the career of teaching.…

A crucial component to “The Under Current” are the short stories found throughout her narrative that exemplify the greater concept of how her mother has shaped her life. She uses a descriptive story of night surfing at the beach to captures reader’s attention and understanding before delving into how her “mother’s voice has been a constant presence”.…
How to pay college athletes? is another great question. Is there really a plan out there worth taking a look at? Ramogi Huma, president and founder of the National College Players Association developed a three-step plan. The first step of the plan is to give scholarships equal the cost of attending at the college. Most “full scholarships” are still short on average $3,200 of the cost of…

When the teacher brought in her friend to instruct an exercise class for the children, Charles kicked him. In fact, “Charles was so fresh to the teacher’s friend, he wasn't let to do exercises” (347). When Laurie was confronted by his father about Charles's continued outbursts, he asked Laurie what the school was going to do about Charles. Laurie told his father “throw him out of school, I guess.” (348) Laurie was obviously having difficulties adapting to the new environment of his kindergarten class; but over time he was able to resolve his…
And she’s remained a math teacher for over 26 years, with 14 years in Virginia and 12 in Kentucky under her belt, and no plans of retiring anytime soon. She’s worked everywhere from private schools to public schools to a junior correctional facility for substance and drug use. This is her fifth year teaching at Lawrence County High School and over the years she has developed an unmatched passion for this district. Her objective is to help turn the district around academically so that it isn’t low-performing, or low-achieving, as determined by standardised…
“Whap!” A spiraling red dodge ball crashes into my face and suddenly I am awake. The outcries from the eighth-grade girls around me pull me back into the packed room full of 200 middle schoolers. As I look around I realize there is no place I would rather spend my Friday mornings than volunteering with somewhat smelly middle schoolers as a Campus Life leader. Here, I discovered my passion for working with middle school students. They helped me discover that I wanted to change my major from Elementary Education to Middle School Education. Here at UNK, I am a part of SEAN and participate in student directed one acts. These activities are a fun break from studying and I plan on continuing with these activities throughout my years here at UNK. In high school, I…
I am thankful for my opportunity to work with Ralph over this past semester and the amount of information I have gained from this experience is substantial. I was pleasantly surprised by how much he would warmed up throughout our first session.…
Beep, beep, beep! “Aww morning already” exclaimed Mason as he tried to fall back asleep. After he realized it probably wasn’t going to happen he got up and went through his usual routine in the morning. He woke up at 7:15 sharp, and brushed his teeth then combed his hair. He went downstairs, made a bowl of cereal, and poured some orange juice. After finishing his breakfast he then went upstairs to his bedroom. He didn’t realize it yet but he was about to discover something he never knew was there before.…
