Film Poster Analysis
Poster Analysis

In the poster I have used is heart-warming and sentimental image to convey to the audience that the film is about the friendship and love of a boy and his dog. The mise-en-scene suggests that it is set in a rural place which also carries conventions of a tragedy genre. The poster suggests that it is a family drama and maybe even a tragedy film.
The name of the film is ‘A Dog’s Life’; I picked a typography that suggests that it is written in chalk or crayon type texture to shows the youthfulness of the boy and the dog. It is also informal which also suggests the same thing.
I picked the actors Keira Knightley known for her role in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and Bradley Cooper famous for his role in ‘The Silver Linings Playbook’ to star in the lead of the film. Both are known for their work in drama films. Their high status acts as the films marketing tool. Many people will be more likely to watch the film because they are in it. I have also used the child actor ‘Nathen Gamble’ to star as the boy in the film. Although he doesn’t have a high status, people would be encouraged to watch it to find out who he is.
The name of my film ‘A Dog’s Life’ suggests that the film mainly focuses on the life of the dog. This will encourage people who are animal lovers to watch the film as the name suggests that the dog is a major part in the film. It also suggests that it is an emotional and moving drama and maybe even a tragedy film.
I believe that the use of high profile actors to star in my poster is one of its strong points because they will be used as a marketing tool. More people will be encouraged to watch my film because they will want to see the two actors that I have used. Furthermore I have included five star ratings on the top of my poster to encourage more people to watch the film as they will see that the film has gotten excellent reviews.
To improve my poster I could make the title stand out by maybe putting a black outline around the letters because it blends in too much with my background as the picture I used is has a light background making the title and release date hard to see. Also to improve it I could increase the contrast to make it bolder and eye catching. Furthermore the high profile stars in my film should be on my film poster to attract more viewers.

In terms of composition, both dogs are shown in a narrow depth of field. The shot is taken from the front. The dogs take up the whole frame so that there are no distractions. They and their injuries can be clearly identified. The shots are taken in natural indoor light to show that there is no need for any extra camera tricks to convey the pain the animals go through. The contrast between the stark white bandage and the dark brown fur of the second dog is effective by itself. The shots are very candid. The pained look in the big eyes of both dogs is enough to convince any viewer of what they have been through. The sequence moves from images of rescued dogs to who have suffered injuries to a statement about how there are still more. It is almost as if the advertiser is trying to say, “Yes, this kind of animal cruelty exists, and there is more where that came from.” In this frame, the text is white and set to a black background. The text is also a standard font. It is centered with no other images or text to show that it is the main focus of the frame. The simplicity of the image allows for the reader to focus on the words themselves. The words are powerful themselves; so adding any extra color or pictures would be redundant and even detract from the statement itself. The black and white could also be symbolic. The white represents the pure, innocent animals surrounded by the cruel black world. “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan is still playing in the background. The viewer is not only moved visually, but audibly. The phrase “you are pulled from the wreckage” is sung and coincides perfectly with the images of the hurt dogs. At the moment that the text comes up, the phrase “silent reverie” comes up. Those animals that were never saved had dreams, but those dreams have died, have been “silenced.” Sarah lingers on the word “silent” to…

In the movie “Bernie”, we follow the story and between a Carthage, Texas funeral director Bernie Tiede, and his co-dependent relationship with a wealthy widow, Marjorie Nugent. As “Bernie” unfolds, we see the companionship turn for the worse as Ms. Nugent’s ill-temper causes Bernie to snap – and lands her dead in her freezer. This movie brings up some questions, specifically regarding image. After analysis, the question I keep coming back to is “Was Bernie genuine and sincere? Or was it all a façade?” Although Bernie committed a horrible crime, I believe the answer to this question is “yes”- Bernie was a genuine man.…
