I will never forget the Christmas when I was 14 years old. The whole day was so wonderful and exciting. We had to wake up and unwrap presents early because my father was working that day so everyone woke up at 5:00 AM. After all the presents were given out, everyone said was saying goodbye to my father and went back to sleep. At 9:00 AM, we had to wake up to clean the house because we have “Christmas Brunch” every other year where my whole family comes to have a meal. My mom has a total of 5 brothers and sisters. And they all came with their families, which included their kids and some of their kids even have children. So, at my house, there was a rough total of about fifty family members for the brunch. The food that we ate on this day was unbelievably and utterly amazing. Most of the types of food that we devoured were Polish and German cultural foods, which are the two major nationalities in my family. There was fried Polish sausage with sautéed onions. They were a perfect combination of saltiness to sweetness. Then there were some sweet and creamy pecan rolls that my grandmother used to make all the time, but unfortunately I could not have one since I am allergic to nuts. Then to top all of those foods, there were all different sorts of pierogi. There were the family favorite potato pierogi, the sweet cheese pierogi, and then there were the blueberry pierogi which are my favorite. Those foods were the three items that we mostly ate at the brunch. All the adults would be either drinking coffee, soda, or some alcoholic beverages and for me my favorite thing to drink: Polish carbonated water.…
Locavores are members of a community who eat locally grown products as much as they possibly can. They are people who believe in nutrition with an eye for sustainability. The movement has spread throughout the United States and at first glance appears to be a great, eco-friendly idea. Although after further reviewing, there seems to be more than meets the eye. There are several groups who oppose the idea of locavorism, and others who believe that it is a lifestyle that should be adopted by the entire United States. In the end, it all comes down to personal opinion.…
Every morning, I would always wake up before anybody to go outside and pick out what we needed for breakfast. I would get on a chair in the kitchen and put it to the counter tops and I would climb to get my brown basket to put my eggs and veggies in. The night before, my aunt would always pre made the coffee and when getting down from the counter tops and I would put the lid down to the coffee maker so it was ready when everyone woke up for breakfast.…
Food is an essential part of our lives. We consume it every day and absolutely need it to live and thrive successfully. With something so significant to us, why should we risk the source of where our food comes from? Robert Kenner created a powerhouse documentary film called Food Inc. that gives an accurate description of the horrible realities of corporate farming by providing evidence of the harm affecting both humans and animals. Robert Kenner is a film director and producer. Kenner claims that today; food can be potentially harmful to the health of any consumer and the process of creating certain foods is detrimental to the lives of the animals and humans involved in the procedure. Kenner demonstrates his argument by using the effect of pathos, exemplification, and imagery. Pathos in this film displays a depressing feel to the documentary to appeal to the emotional aspect of viewers. Pathos is represented through the size and living conditions of chickens at Tyson farms and the death of a child named Kevin by E. coli poisoning. Exemplification is used by Kenner to display examples of Kenner’s argument and how they relate to each claim. Exemplification is seen through the versatility of corn and result of cows that have been fed corn. Imagery is important to this film because it leaves a descriptive representation of the concepts, making them more understandable. Imagery is effective to the tone of the movie, especially in scenes such as the living conditions of the chickens, how much manure is involved with cows in the slaughterhouse, and the conditions of workers in the Smithfield slaughterhouse.…

In the late 1800’s Native Americans treasured food, but the cooking appliances were rudimentary. Native American food and cuisine have historical significances, because it has changed the cooking industry today. Today we eat unhealthy, easy, quick meals. Farming methods allowed crops to grow on the same soil. It was hard, tiring, and miserable to work in the hot sun, trying to catch your family a meal. Today, microwaves, ovens, and mixers make it effortless to make a meal in minutes. Even though today we have advanced utensils to cook with, meals are less healthy and higher in fat content. Native Americans created traditions and culture due to resources surrounding their food in the late 1800’s which has lost…

For example, when I am watching TV and I see a commercial about hamburgers or new unhealthy food coming out I tend to go for the processed food instead of a home cooked meal. I believe the government should consider…
In major cities in the United States, citizen`s access to affordable nutritious food has become an emerging issue. Citizens find themselves without healthy options for nutritious food to feed themselves or their children. This is due to physical distance from supermarkets, food affordability, and many other factors. This phenomenon has been defined as a food desert. The Congressional report to the Economic Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture, about 2.3 million people (or 2.2 percent of all US households) live more than one mile away from a supermarket and do not own a car. This lack of transportation in conjunction with many over variables that will be discussed has contributed to this current issue in public health. A lack of healthy options could lead to poor diets and to diet-related conditions such as obesity or diabetes. If low-income households in food deserts can only purchase food at higher prices, they may be more prone to food insecurity—not having enough food for active, healthy living.…

I can remember last winter when me and my friends went to the country and made the biggest snow man from our town. The snow was like silk and every time the sun shone it was glittering. The houses were full of this incredible white skin texture which resembled like a big white polar bear. Even if the sun was trying to warm this part of the country, the winter and thus the snow took possession of our lives, invading it with beautiful snow flakes which were constantly falling like diamonds from the grey sky. I remember the feeling that endeavours your soul, a feeling of ease, of peace and happiness. I love winter and all that relates to it.…
As we know, food is the most important thing in our lives. We can not live without food, it sounds redundant but that is the reality. Imagine if we do not eat any food in a day, we will get very not powere because we do not get the strength that is contained in food. We realized this important thing and now we have found that there are two types of food, organic and unorganic food. Many people still missunderstanding about the definition of organic and unorganic food. They tend to think that organic food is the healthiest food and unorganic food is a bad food. Actually, organic food is made in a way that complies with organic standards set by national governments and international organizations. Unorganic or non-organic food is which was produced without the use of hormones, antibiotics (for non-medicinal purposes), synthetic fertilizers or pesticides in accordance with the USDA National Organic Program (NOP). The use of the term is regulated by the NOP and only those products that meet the standards may use the term. Therefore all other products would be non-organic or unorganic. From the definition, we can see that organic and unorganic food are not the same. Organic food is healthier than unorganic food since it is pesticide-free, but it also has a worse appearance than organic food.…
