Reading Strategies Worksheet

Identify two reading goals, one short-term and one long-term.

Long-term reading goal: The meaning is to achieve in the future
Short-term reading goal: The meaning is to achieve very soon near future

Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:

How do you currently approach the weekly readings in the course? I approroach this week’s reading by printing everything out so I will have all course work and chapters in front of me. Then I read the entire chapter taking note in my own word so I can understand them better. When I have all my notes and key headings marked out, I read the assignments to see if I read the answer. Sometimes I’ll read the chapter over again to make sure I didn’t miss anything important in my notes. I even reread my notes a couple of time to make sure they make sense, but before I do any type of finial paper I search the library to find more info if I quite don’t understand.

How might you incorporate three of the suggestions covered this week into your study time?
Skimming will help me because I get a preview of what I am about to read, paying attention to the headings and subheadings. By recognizing the frame work of the chapter

Mapping will be very helpful to me because I can put the main idea or topic in the middle and branch out many subheadings ideas of the topic. Mapping while previewing has really help me come along with my reading, it also help me to remember better so I don’t forget by the end of the reading

Text marking might be helpful and useful to me as well because I can make little notes off to the side in my own words, this will also help me remember because it is in my own words and remember key points.

How might this plan help you accomplish your reading goals?
This plan will help me a lot with reading to go about reading to make it where I can understand what I am reading about. By printing the reading(s) out, note taking, Skimming, Mapping, Textmarking, and the University library I will get a better understanding of what I read and to be a better reader not only for my course work but for myself.gh

Being a student requires reading—and a lot of it. Some love it, some hate it. Nonetheless, we can 't escape it. Reading is part of a student 's life, and the length of time spent on it defines the kind of student one is. It is a challenge to even start going through the first page, all the more to finish it until the end. And yet, to understand is completely a different story. Reading has been described as a gateway to explore new worlds, a key to unlock the treasure of infinite knowledge, or an escape door from reality. The way you describe it reflects your value for it. It needs to transcend the sense of sight in order to penetrate the brain. Words read with the eyes do not mean the same as to words read with the mind. And as a student steps higher in the ladder of education, reading comprehension matures with the increase in the level of critical thinking.…

I have learnt that just listening to whatever it is we are talking about or reading has been very useful because it makes remembering the content easier. I have also found that I am better at writing assignments with a very specific structure. Structures such as SEEEC and introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and conclusion help me a lot when writing because it allows you to know exactly what you have to write next without having to figure out what goes in between. I also have found that highlighting my notes is very effective because it makes it easy to find the main points quickly when going back to it. It also allows me to listen to the teacher while finding the important…
