Personal Thinking Styles (Part I)

The Figure 1 below is the LSI Survey result circumplex and here is my analysis of the profile in regards to my personal thinking styles

[pic] Figure 1 1. Primary thinking & Back up thinking style

LSI Survey result has shown that my Primary thinking style is more competitive. According to the results the raw score for the competitive style is 23 points and very high percentile score of 93. Even though I was surprised to some extent, I agree with that analysis. I have the habit of focusing more on winning than on performance excellence.

The circumflex also shows that my back up thinking style(s) is dependent and approval. LSI survey result rates me at 91 percentile on both those styles. In way they are both inter-related. I believe those styles certainly are characterized by the following character of preoccupation with the opinions of others and tendency to

Sometimes I feel as though I’m more in stage 1 the Unreflective Thinker. Although I think, I’m unaware of how my thinking is structured or how to asses and improve it. At times when I experience problems in thinking, I feel as though I lack the skills to identify and fix the problems. Take my job for example, when dealing with irate customers I take a step back and look at it from their perspective; however, I feel as though I lack the confidence to help the customers fix their problems. There are also times when it’s busy and short drivers, I have to come up with a decision that requires me to think things through before making a final decision. Since I am a dispatcher, it is up to me to ensure the drivers arrive at their destination within twenty minutes and ensure all drivers get their turn at running calls.…

Self assessments have been used widely in recent decades. The usefulness and truthfulness of these assessments depend entirely upon the user. Utilizing a self assessment tool for the betterment of self is the goal of this report. In this report, I have completed 3 different self assessments to analyze myself. The first assessment that will be discussed is the Jung Personality Test. The next one will be the Team Role Preference Survey followed by the Work Locus of Control Survey. Each of these surveys focuses on various behavioural and personality traits. The Jung Personality Test focuses on four principal physiological functions by which we view the world: feeling, intuition, sensation, and thinking. The team Role Preference Survey is geared towards identifying an individual's preferred roles in meetings and team activities. The Work Locus of Control is designed to determine control beliefs in the workplace. The results obtained from the three surveys indicated predominantly what I already knew about myself. My teamwork ability and my interpersonal skills allow me to be an effective mediator. My locus of control being in-between confirms my suspicion that I believe in effort equals reward but also that external factors are always an influence.…

My secondary thinking style is the Self-Actualizing Style. This style is manifested in both my professional and personal lives. In my professional life, I continually strive to grow and always look for new ways to challenge myself. An example of this is that I am currently attending Graduate school yet still plan on trying to get several certificates to help compliment my education. At work, I always try to find the most efficient way to complete my job duties and tend to get annoyed when I feel I am not doing something productive. I know myself very well and take pride in that. I know what I can handle at work and in my personal life and I know what I can’t. I hardly ever commit to something I feel I can’t do. In my personal life, I value knowing myself and have a very good handle on my self-worth.…

The life styles inventory is a survey of questions that help us to gain an insight into our own personality and what type of behaviors we exert to others as individuals. It helps us to look at the positive and negative qualities of our personalities and ways to improve upon them. A look at my LSI styles complex radiates that my primary thinking style is linked to the avoidance category. The avoidance scale states that I tend to use the strategy of withdrawal by hiding my feelings and being shy to express myself. It also states that as things become more threatening to me the more I tend to avoid those situations. These thinking styles are linked to feelings of denying responsibility for my own behavior, feelings of guilt whether they are realistic or not. I also have a fear of general failure in almost everything I do. I am also mainly concerned about myself and my feelings and thoughts. These characteristics are manifested in my life because of my thinking pattern and although I know they are not good characteristics to have, somehow I have become entangled in them. My main problem is my withdrawal from almost everything I do and the inability to express my feelings and be comfortable around others. I somehow find myself threatened by others and tend to keep my feelings to myself. I also seem to have a lot of guilt for my behavior whenever something goes wrong in my personal life. There is also a general fear in almost everything I do and a lack of disclosure about myself which eventually leads to emotional isolation from my peers.…

The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) is a self-assessment questioning instrument that processes the information you input into the system into 12 different thinking styles.
