Unit 4: Development Through the Life Stages

P3 – Explain the influence of two predictable and two unpredictable major life events on the development of an individual.

Starting school is a predictable life event | Physical influences | When a child starts school it influences them physically because P.E is on the national curriculum, some of them may walk to school which is good exercise and they get some fresh air. Whilst a child is in primary school they get play times which is when they can go outside and run around, play games etc. Also break time is a chance for them to eat. | Intellectual influences | When a child starts school it influences them intellectually because they learn how to read and write and they develop their language skills through talking to other children and staff. They experience and learn new things which widen their vocabulary and knowledge. They also learn through play and discovering new things. | Emotional influences | When a child starts school it influences them emotionally, because when they first start they may be shy, they feel upset when they have to leave their mum and dad. As they get used to being without their parents they will start to develop new bonds with other children. Their self-esteem will start to increase and they will start to enjoy themselves and feel happy. | Social influences | When a child starts school it can influence them socially as well, because they get the opportunity to interact with other children, chance to make new friends. It also helps their social skills to develop. | Retirement is a predictable life event | Physical influences | | Intellectual influences | | Emotional influences | | Social influences | | Divorce is an unpredictable life event | Physical influences | | Intellectual influences | | Emotional influences | | Social influences | | Serious injury is an unpredictable life event | Physical influences | | Intellectual influences | |

    One of the factors is Diet/exercise. Good nutrition and plenty of exercise are the building blocks for strong growth, healthy development and lifelong well-being for children. However many children today don't receive proper meals and the exercise that they need to grow up strong and healthy. Children that don’t receive proper meals (at least 3 meals a day) can be affected physically and mentally, they wont have the energy to do physical activities which then affects their exercise, and wont be able to function properly at school by being too tired because lack of food provides lack of energy for the body to function. Parents that have low income or cant provide for the child to have proper meals can apply or free school meals at school, and sign the child up for breakfast club as well. That way children will get their breakfast, snack, and dinner which should give them enough energy for the day at school. Once children receive the right amount of food and exercise they will be able to feel good about themselves/their bodies and their abilities, they will be able to cope with stress and emotions better, also they will avoid feelings of low self esteem, anxiety and depression.…
