Hero or Villain? Many would say that Brutus was a villain for killing Caesar but was he really. When people at first glance say he was the villain in the story they don’t to stop to think outside the box they only see what’s inside the box. They only see and process through there mind that he has killed the great Julius Caesar when in fact they haven’t really taken the time to listen to the reason for which he killed Caesar.
Through my eyes I see a hero who did what he thought was right and what he believed would be best for the people of Rome. Indeed he did kill Caesar but he did it for his beloved Rome as he said to the people of Rome at Caesar’s funeral, “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more” (III ii 21-22). This statement shows how honorable he was for his city and his people who live in it because even though he killed Caesar he did it for his people and his state not just for himself. This makes him and shows why he is a hero and not a villain.
Even though Brutus knows he did the right thing he still feels guilty for what he did and he is haunted for what he did and is punished when Caesars ghost appears to him. Caesars ghost haunts Brutus and tells him, “…thee thou shalt see me at Philippi” (III iv 305). Caesar has indeed predicted that Brutus will die like Caesar did and he will meet up with Caesar soon. In my opinion this is the worst punishment to give to someone who had to kill a friend to save his people from the harm he believed his friend would do. This is even more reason to make Brutus a true hero.
Brutus in the end died as the ghost of Caesar had predicted but he died a hero not as a villain. I am no the only one who believes that out of everyone who stabbed Caesar, Brutus was the only one who actually did it for something other than to just for himself he did it for his people and Antony tells Octavious at the end:
This was the noblest Roman of them all: all the conspirators, save only he, did that they did in envy of
