Why does a society require truth to function well? Truth is not always easy to find. Likewise in the medieval period, truth was overpowered by corruption. Similarly in the literature of the mediaeval period, Piers Plowman, The Canterbury Tales and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, one can find some examples of truth overpowered by corruption. Therefore, truth is concealed by falsehood and is only reveled through the words of the authors of these works.…

In “Earth Day” by Atticot and Manning they state, “The recycling rate has increased from less than 10% in 1980 to more than 34% in 2011. Now that has spiked, and some people feel that you don’t have to recycle anymore. However, that is wrong. Davis states, “On March 21, 1971, the UN Secretary-General signed a proclamation establishing Earth Day as an official international holiday.” That was signed in 1971, so it was still so bad that they had to make a holiday to remind people to take care of Earth.…

Earth Day, one of the first national demonstrations against pollution and other violations of the planet’s ecosystem happened on April 21, 1970. Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Senator Gaylord A. Nelson in response to the concern about what was happening to the land, rivers, lakes, and air. Until that time, guarding the planet 's natural resources was not part of the nationwide political schema, and the number of activists dedicated to large-scale issues such as industrial pollution was minor. Earth Day originally started off as a day of education about environmental issues, but has now become a worldwide commemorated holiday that is sometimes extended into Earth Week, an entire seven days of events dedicated to green awareness. Earth Day was originally aimed at creating a mass environmental movement and, by raising public awareness of air and water pollution, Nelson had hoped to bring environmental causes into the national spotlight. Now, more than 40 years, one could say that he succeeded in doing just that.…

End of life decisions can cause people to make choices they would not normally choose. People begin to reflect on their lives, remembering the good and the bad. I believe one wish when facing death that most people have is they do not want to suffer. They also do not want their family to watch them suffer. I think that physician assisted suicide may be a consideration in some extreme cases where pain cannot be controlled with medications or when the patient is comatose and will never regain consciousness. Many people believe that physician assisted suicide is unethical because it is viewed as murder. Those who view physician assisted suicide as unethical also feel that no one, even a physician has the right to assist anyone with suicide.…

It has come to my attention that our nation is in the middle of earthweek. At a time when we all stop, as Americans, and take a look at all of the great accomplishments we have made that we could have possibly overlooked while running around with our busy schedules. We recognize our efforts to create powerful industries and production plants that produce endless chemical compounds and new materials. The discovery and use of fossil fuels, of which has fed our automobiles and at times added a protective coating to our shores and beaches. The men and women who clear the land and provide the materials for our homes. And what about electricity? The greatest discovery of all time. We must not forget about the men and women who spend hours on end getting in and out of those little white suits and rubber gloves to dispose our radio active waste. It is not so much that we recognize the great discoveries and creations we have made, but more that we recognize all we do as humans to ensure our plentiful and gluttonous lifestyles.…

Another alarming discovery that people had was the fact that the air was becoming unhealthy, and what they were actually breathing in was factory fumes and smoke. Environmentalists brought the long term risks that this can have such as acid rain and the threat of global warming, not to mention what it can do to the people who are using the polluted water and breathing in the polluted air. Amongst this controversy about environmentalism there was a celebration that stemmed from these problems called Earth Day that started from the idea a Wisconsin senator had where people would come in to college campuses and learn about pollution and global warming and other threats to the earth and then were taught what they can do to help. This educational day gradually spread across the nation and an estimated 20 million participated in some way on Earth Day in the next years. Environmentalism became a real help to America and it was acknowledged by almost everyone especially politicians, it crossed its biggest line after Richard Nixon signed a National Environmental Protection Act that enforced laws to have pollution…
