During the nineteen seventies, there was an increase in political awareness, which initially stared in 1960, along with the economic liberty of women and the dimming of the hipster movement. Nineteen seventy was also the year Paula Scher graduated, it has been called the “golden days of illustration”. There were well established arts at that time, like Miltion Glaser, Seymour Chwast, James McMullen, Pual Davis whom Paula perceived as inspiration. Paula’s work doesn’t have many distinct features that display the influence of the artist above on her work, since she has a style of her own, but there are some corresponding color pallets.…

Is it their skin color? Their language? Their appearance? Or maybe the tragic occurrence of September 11th? Over the years, Muslims have rapidly become subjects to one of the many groups that are strongly stereotyped throughout the West. Whether it is religious, physical, traditional, or even affected by disdained feelings against them, Muslims suffer from all kinds of stereotypes. This occurrence, however, is clearly recognized by a Muslim author named Marjane Satrapi. In her graphic novel, Persepolis, Satrapi illustrates her story of living in Iran as a discreet revolutionist child going against the Fundamentalists’ throughout the Islamic Revolution. Proving Iran’s image of having connections with fundamentalism, fanaticism, and terrorism false, Satrapi successfully sheds light upon her subversion to Western stereotypes about Muslims through the use of three illustrative strategic dichotomies. These creative dichotomies include the color usage of black versus white, the significance of big images versus small images, and the illustrative facial expressions of Iranian Fundamentalists versus Iranian Revolutionists.…

There weren’t huge strides in graphic design, until a few hundred years later when in 1750 the Industrial Revolution changed mass urban culture and the entire world. This transition marked not only social and economic change, from agriculture and commercial society to the modern urban areas. It also brought with it new machinery such as the steam engine, and the use of iron and coal as new energy sources. Retail, transportation and factories became a vital part of the work forces and so changed the way graphic art was not only designed but also the way it was marketed. Printing became all about mass communication in the 19th century. This rise of mass communication brought with it inevitable change and revelations. The first being that newspapers like Winslow Homer’s Baillou’s Pictorial and Honore Daumier’s Macaire Bill Poster were overdone and unnecessarily ornamented. The second revelation of the Industrial Revolution was that artists were becoming aware of the public’s reaction to these advertisements and those negative reactions. Because of this artist’s of the time decided to take design more seriously in the future. With these big, busy…

Since late 20th century, non-American writers have found their ways of getting their messages through – literary works. This is no exception to Mahbod Seraji, Iranian born, American based writer who wrote his debut novel, which also served as a social novel, Rooftops of Tehran, first published and printed in May 2009 that served as both commentary and criticism to both Iranian and world communities. This essay will try to attempt to provide an insight of what are the main messages behind Mr. Seraji’s Rooftops of Tehran which will be divided into five main points which are, prevalent corruptions among religious scholars and royals, the importance of family and social values, the importance of knowledge, the price of freedom and the concept of reality versus perception. One has to take note that these messages are not solely targeted for one community or area or those with particular interest, but actually served as an insight for the global community whom can view these points from different perspectives and reflect upon the real importance message behind it.…

Two paining, which I choose they are traditional painting. When people watch this painting (color and thinking). It is easy for people think about traditional culture. Two pictures show people for peaceful. The sculpture I chose is the Yungang Grottoes “The work on this first period of carving lasted until the year 465 AD, and the caves are now known as caves 16–20. Beginning around the year 471 AD, in a second construction phase that lasted until 494 AD, the twin caves 5/6, 7/8, and 9/10 as well as the caves 11, 12, and probably 13 were constructed under the supervision and support of the imperial court. The imperial patronage ended 494 AD with the move of the Wei court to the new capital of Luoyang. All other caves emerged under private patronage in a third construction period, lasting until 525, when the construction came to a final halt due to uprisings in the area.” Buddha is important in Asian culture, there are many believers. Regarding the cultural identity, I chose the film Yong Zheng Dynasty,Young Zheng was a Emperor, “A hard-working ruler, Yongzheng's main goal was to create an effective government at minimal expense. Like his father, the Kangxi Emperor, Yongzheng used military force to preserve the dynasty's position. Suspected by historians to have usurped the throne, his reign was known as despotic, efficient, and vigorous.” This film, which deeply introduces palace politics struggles.…
