How To Improve English
How to Improve English

Learning English is actually is an easy task if you know the ways. For me itself, learning English has always been a mountain to climb. In my household itself, our mother tongue is given the priority. I have faced many challenges because my spoken English wasn’t fluent enough. I would be a nervous wreck when I have to present in English in front of the class. Other than that, I also had some difficulties in writing something in English. My grammar was not perfect in the first place and I find it difficult to find the right vocabulary to use. I would blame it on my lack of reading. Other than me, the rest of my friends are also facing the same problem in learning English. A proverb goes ‘if there is a will, there would be a way ‘. There are many ways to improve one’s English. We have tried several ways on improving our English. One of it to write or communicate. Try to find discussion forums from the web about things that you find interesting and fun (music/various artists, hobbies, etc.) And start communicating there with other people using only English. Start using instant messaging systems in case you find some new friends or start emailing them. Please do not be afraid of making mistakes or hesitating, because even native speakers do make mistakes and do hesitate at times! The more you enjoy communicating, the better! Secondly, buy yourself a proper dictionary, and each time when you see a strange word that you do not understand, look it up. Putting words into their context is one of the best ways to broaden one's vocabulary and grammar knowledge, the more you read and write the better. Memorising is not the best way to go with learning vocabulary, grammar or any other language areas! For idioms, you should buy an all-English dictionary which explains the words in English and shows you examples of how to use the words in their real context. Thirdly, we can listen to mp3s. Although buying music on the internet is becoming more popular in many countries, not so many people know that you can download speech radio such as audio books (an actor reading out a novel) and speech radio. Not only is this better practice for your English than listening to English music, from sources like scientific American, BBC and Australia's ABC radio it is also free. We can also listen to English music. Even listening to music while doing something else can help a little for things like getting used to the natural rhythm and tone of English speech, although the more time and attention you give to a song the more you will learn from listening to it again in the future. In conclusion, if you put your mind to it you can do it. What matters is that, we are willing to go for it. Learning English has become a must to all of us. Thus, we have put in a lot of effort and followed all the steps above in improving our language. Now we have realised the importance of English and are in the process of improving our English to become the best.

I think the most important thing for anyone, is to constantly expose yourself to the language you are trying to learn. This of course goes for me as well, and luckily it is not a hard thing to do in today’s society with the massive influx of American and British television/movies, music and games. This is mainly the things that helped me learn the English language as I grew up, along with of course, the Internet. Aside from the constant exposure I get from the things I listed above, I think the things that will prove most important to me when it comes to learning the English language in the near future will be pure “live” interaction with it. Talking, discussing and expressing myself to others in English.…

I think the best way you can learn the foreign language is when you are directly exposed to it: I tried to communicate with native speakers, to listen to the pronunciation of the words and construction of the sentences. However, there is one problem with living in NYC , it is so multicultural that even English as language is culturally shaded. I watched TV paying extra attention to unfamiliar words and expanded my lexicon. I believe my English is improving every day as I discover new things for me, read new book or watch the TV programs. I have got a good experience in writing in English at my first…

Undoubtedly, English is the most important language in the world. Therefore, Proficient in English will have numerous advantages. fortunately, I have realized the importance of learning English and worked hard since I was a child. However, after 10 years of learning English experience I could hardly communicate in English and definitely unable to write an essay, that realy made me frustrating . then, I realized I must make too many mistakes in learning English. it was translating English into Chinese. I just did not feel that learning English is pleasant enough, so i just did it if i had to. At first , every language has its own rules. They usually have different grammar and using of vocabulary, which means learning English by translating it into chinese will lead to an inevitable defeat. For example, I have worked hard on learning a lot of vocabulary by translating them into Chinese. However, those translation processes were hugely disappointing.at that time I failed to express my idea accurately by those translated vocabulary. As a consequence, good grade and improvement seemed untouchable one day I became to reconglize this problem ,desperately and completely stopped translation . one year later, my English was obviously and generally improved. I attribute my success to the stoping of translation. secondly, I am going to talk about reading and writing. They are undoubtedly the key element to learn English comfortably and effectively. Improving English from only doing grammar exercises is usually inferior to reading and writing practice. Only practices can help us to react to the reality. Therefore reading and writing are crucial to our English. For example, I used to study English phrasal verbs for 12 hours before an English exam ,However, i would not read a book in English for 30 minutes every day. The problem is that a huge one-time effort gives you nothing, while small, everyday activities will give you a lot. In conclusion, think in the English way , learning…

When I came to the USA, I thought life would be easier than what I found out. I thought that living in the U.S would be easy and interesting. I thought that speaking English would be familiar to me because I learned English in my country at school, but to speak the language was very far from what I learned, and it became a big problem for me. At first, I had a problem in distinguish words during the conversation with native speakers. I had to ask them to repeat themselves for many time till I got it. In addition, I was using many words from my native language during the conversation unintentionally. Second I could not find a job because no one accepted to hire non English speaker. I even couldn’t watch TV or listen to the radio. My lack of English made my life a lot harder that`s why I decided to enroll in the college and learning English.…

However, there are simple and effective techniques that significantly speed up the learning process and make it less boring. To my mind if you really want to learn English you have to find free time every day and make yourself learning something. We often lie to ourselves when we say that have no time for studying. Actually in most cases people say it since they just don’t want to feel guilty about skipping something. And I’m not exception. Anyone can find time, just stop being so lazy! You can learn new word by listening to music, watching a movie or reading, you often come across a word you have never heard, or, seen before. This is the time to pick up a dictionary and learn an unknown word. Read the meaning and write it down. Periodically throughout the day, repeat the word to the point of redundancy. The word will become a part of your vocabulary.…
