David is clenching on to hope that he can escape the concentration camp and flee to Denmark and find his mother. His character conveys the determination of a human being able to survive on little belief in a bleak environment. The use of conjunction in, quote ‘If you are alive you can change things, but if you are dead you can’t, shows that David is still hanging on to hope that he can find his long lost mother. Johannes who is David’s best friend in the camp says ‘Believe in power to change your destiny. The use of second person, displays the human desire and strength of survival in believing. In summary David believes that he can escape the camp without being caught so that he can find his long lost mother.
David is complaining about the lack of freedom that he gets when he says the use of first person,’ ‘ I wish I was dead’ shows highlights that he wanted to die due to not having choice in the life he was living in. The missing freedom is further demonstrated through the hyphen, “he was now twelve years old- it said so on his identity card”. This displays David’s loss of freedom through his inability to know his proper self due to the trust in his identity card.
In conclusion the book ‘I Am David’ by Anne Holm is mainly teaching us what it is like to have freedom and teaching us not to take it for granted, as most of us do. She also teaches us not to give up and believe in yourself.

The poem “David”, written by Earle Birney is a very emotional and allure piece. The major theme that pursues throughout the whole poem is maturity. Which includes the beginning of such, and all the obstacles that must be overcome. The tone is a very cynical one, especially when David asks Bob to push him off the cliff. Birney also uses figurative language and poetic devices to create an element of tension, complexity and emotion.…

“I became A-7713. After that I had no other name” (Wiesel). Imagine living in a place where you were called a number instead of your name. In Night, by Elie Wiesel, he writes that this is an everyday occurrence in his memoir about living in concentration camps. This novel tells readers exactly how it was living in a concentration camp at every hour of the day. Wiesel explains his journey from days before he was taken, all the way to the day the war ended and he was able to get out of the concentration camp. Originally, Elie wrote an 800 page story in Yiddish, but one of his kin edited it making it into the story it is today. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the Holocaust or curious about what it was like.…

Life requires us to move to new stages, each with its own set of obstacles and challenges which, if successfully overcome, can enrich one’s experience. A significant role in this process is played by familial and social values and external interventions. Stephen Daldry’s film ‘Billy Elliot’ (2000) depicts the protagonist’s growth as he discovers a passion for ballet which drives him to break free from traditional masculine stereotypes in his mining hometown. This similar drive traces the quest of the Brennan Family in the Australian Documentary “Proof of life”, when their son Nigel, a war photojournalist, is captured and held hostage in Somalia for ransom. Both texts illustrate the importance of determination, persistence and tenacity in achieving the goals of personal freedom.…

The first issue that is a major concern in the novel, is the torture and abuse towards David, and other members in the novel. Every minute in the United States, children are physically and sexually abused, murdered, maimed, and emotionally scarred. David, the narrator of the novel, has encountured this abuse more than once. David is tortured numorous times, by his father, Joseph Strorm. This brutality would continue, until Mr. Strorm received the information he demanded. It would continue on for hours, until David could not handle it anymore, until the answers Joseph Strorm wanted, were beaten out of of him. No child, anywhere in the world, should have to experience such cruelty. Over 67% of children with disabilities are induced by physical abuse. These numbers are very shocking, but what is every more unbelievalbe is the fact that these children are suffering in silence. Today more and more children are being abused, physically, mentally, and even emotionally. The most pitiful part of it all, is that this abuse is being done by the people the childs parents or close relatives, the ones that are supposed to love and nurture the child, not abuse and torture the child.…
