He calls Jesus a “Dream Awakener” when he uses the term kingdom. [2] He supports his claim by explaining, how Jesus informed his disciples of what God had planned for mankind which he called the new heaven and new earth. Explaining that when Jesus dies all of man’s sin will be washed away, and only after he has risen that man can truly see that God has a plan for all of his people to return to the glory of his…
To begin, the Gospel of Matthew’s primary purpose is to present the life of Jesus. Matthew wrote his Gospel to preserve what he knew about Jesus’ life as a man. This Gospel highlights all of the prophecies fulfilled by Jesus. “Matthew's Gospel is directed to an audience steeped…
Many people believe that we are currently in the end times prophesized in the Bible. Although it would be fairly simple to attach biblical significance to events occurring in our current times, it is important to note, a great multitude of people, throughout the centuries, have searched within their own times for signs of the coming apocalypse. All who claimed to have found the smoking gun that proved we were in the end times have been wrong. We know this because the world still exists, and we’re still here in it.…
Even though there are many advantage there are also many disadvantages. The biggest disadvantage is that when you take a plea bargain it is an automatic admission of guilt. You waive your right to have your trial heard by a jury and a judge. And, even though a plea bargain was offered and accepted, the court can decline the plea bargain which would put the case back on the docket to be heard by a jury. So an admission of guilt not only stays with you forever, it also takes away the right to file for an appeal in your…
An increasing theme in T. M. Luhrmann’s book When God Talks Back is people of the Vineyard church claiming that God is their best friend. A best friend whom they can tell all their secrets too and who speaks back to them in their minds or through audible experiences. The author dives into a group of people that go to God for even the minutest issues in their life, from what color shirt they are going to wear to if they should take a new job. The churchgoers Luhrmann interacts with are a special breed of evangelists that claim that everyone can have God as their best friend. As a Christian one must question the morality of saying the Supreme Being is their best friend. Having a relationship with God and praying pales in comparison to these people that have “date night” and going out of their way to make sure every little thing in their life is ran by God. If “all things are good in moderation”, wouldn’t one believe the Vineyard…
Mark’s passage titled “Peter’s Confession about Jesus” portrays a message that teaches us that the people whom you are closest with, such as your friends and family members, are the only ones who truly know you enough to judge what type of person you are. Peter considered Jesus to be the Messiah, yet those who didn’t know Jesus on a personal level only thought of him as being something similar to a prophet. After Jesus asked what people said of him, his disciples replied “John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others one of the prophets.” This passage shows us the different perspectives of how people may judge you based off of how well they truly know the real you. In the second passage, “The First Prediction of the Passion”, we are shown how important it truly is to never put anyone else’s will before God’s will. God is the one who determines how the journey of our life will play out, and we should never questions his intentions or decisions, as Peter does in this story before Jesus tells him that he is “thinking not as God does.” The third passage, titled “The Conditions of Discipleship”, teaches us that in order to be a true follower of Jesus, we have to be…
This passage about how John the Baptist was the fore-runner for the Messiah. Jesus showed up coming from Galilee, walking towards the Jordan River, which was where John the Baptist had been baptizing other people. Jesus requested that John baptize him, but John didn’t think he was worthy of baptizing Jesus. He thought that Jesus should be baptizing him. Once John the Baptist baptized Jesus, the spirit of the Lord descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove, and said, “This is my beloved son. And whom I am well pleased.” This passage shows me that Jesus sees potential in all of our simply because he created us. It also leads me to think that he cares about us. He wants to ensure that we live right by…
The main theme of this particular speech, is one of contrasting the negatives of the surface to the positives of life in Rapture. As the speech states out right, that the work the man does on the surface benefits more so to larger powers, whilst the man who done the work is basically forgotten about. Life in Rapture according to the speech is quite the opposite, as the man who does the work shall be rewarded for the ‘sweat of his brow’. Some of the main concepts used in the speech is that on the surface there exists ‘powers’ that take importance over the people, taking things that belong to the working man, whilst such is thing Is non-existent,…
During the opening of the play, God called upon the Messenger and Death to alert Everyman that the time of reckoning had come. The author wants readers to pay close attention. God complains about how every man have become immersed in material things in life than follow him. He feels taken advantage of; because he receives no gratitude for all that he has given them. God chose to use death to call upon the character Death to do anything associated with the kingdom. The author seems to portray that God is good and Death is bad. God and Death are teamed up to show the struggle between the two. God uses Everyman to express what he wants and when he wants it. Like any good coach God summons Death up and lay out the game plan for his upcoming mission. The author showed the importance of God explaining his actions to Death so death would not claim victory over no man’s life. God expressed to Death that He alone was the only giver and taker of life. In other words, God was tired of Everyman’s disobedience. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3.16). Everyman did not show God enough respect. Everyman demonstrated lust after things of the world, placed stuff before the love of his fellow man, let his pride take him down, held on to grudges, not willing to forgive, envious of his brother, and just plain mean for no reason at all. God is feed up with the way…
My understanding of the gospel prior to this class was that God sent his only son to earth so that we may be forgiven of our sins. The gospel to me was also about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. As I was growing up I also learned about the great commission. While I learned about the great commission I realized all Christians are required to go out and take the gospel and share it weather as a missionary in a foreign country or the work place such as a school teacher. I grew up in the church and went to a small private Christian school where I was immersed in the teaching of the gospel. The gospel to me was very important as I was growing up. Although as I entered into high school I fell into complacency and did not carry out the gospel as I should have. Once I became an upper level classman in high school I realized I had become complacent and Matthew 28:16-20 became a very important verse in my life.…
In the New Testament, the second coming of Christ was presented as Him being the judge of the world. He did not only foretell the event but graphically portrays its circumstances (matt. 24:27); the Apostle gave a most prominent place to this as well in their preaching (Acts 10:42) and writings (Rom.2:5-16,14:10, 1Cor 4:5,2Cor 5:10,2 Tim. 4:1;1:5,James 5:7). Also, in John 14:1-3, He said “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you, I WILL COME AGAIN and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also”…
He uses an angry persuasive mood. He is trying to scare his congregation into salvation, by comparing them to insects dangling over the fires of hell and only gods mercy keeps them from burning.…
This is a report on the Book of Revelation the last book in the bible and the only book in the New Testament that is prophetic. The bible is a compilation of different books written by 40 different authors. In particular the book of Revelation was written by the apostle John when he was on the island of Patmos now located in the country of Greece due to the tribulation “on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus” (Rev 1.9). In this report I will outline the revelation of Jesus Christ to the apostle John., the message of Jesus Christ to the apostle John and the future events that will take place in the last days according to the prophesies of this book. Moreover, I will provide my personal opinion regarding this text because I think this will help readers understand the point I’m trying to make regarding this topic.…
John Edwards is trying to why you should believe in Christ and what are you effects if you do not . An example of why it is bad to sin and believe in him as your savior is that because “ his wrath will burn like fire”. What he is trying to say is that to all the sinners who dont believe him as their savior will feel his wrath and hatred so strongly it will burn like fire. When john says this , he shows very good pathos because it makes the audience feel scared because his hate and wrath will be so strong towards all the sinners who do not except him . If youre a sinner who does not except him , be very aware that all his hate towards all you sinners will burn so much like fire and you will regret it ,and at the end it will be too late for you.…
The Gospel of Matthew was written with the intention of bridging the gap between the prophecies of the Old Testament, and their fulfillment by Jesus in the New Testament. In order to make this connection, Matthew’s Gospel takes on a specific mode. It is mainly composed of stories that relate to the teaching aspect of Jesus’ life. Matthew uses his role as an instructor to portray Jesus as a “humble and compassionate Messiah.” Matthew’s perspective is also focused; the Romans are seemingly less culpable for Jesus’ death than the Jewish leaders and people. Perhaps the writer’s intentions shine through as an effect of this focus, and it seems probable that, “[Matthew] was likely intended to shock both Jewish Christians and their Jewish neighbors…
