(15 CAT – please see additional assignment pages 2-3)

Assignment 1: Final length 1500 words (40% of module assessment)
Please note this assessment is for the 12-CAT version of this module.
Assignment 1 is completed in two halves. Each optional question comprises two distinct components, the first half completed in Phase 1 (750 words), and the second in Phase 2 (total combined length 1500 words).
Phase 1
Students are to complete the question selected from the below list of options, and hand it in. They will then obtain formative feedback. What formative feedback means is that you do not get a formal mark for this that forms part of your final mark. However, what you do get is an indication of your overall performance, and written feedback as to what you have got wrong and what you have done right. Formative feedback will be on your overall academic writing capabilities (very important in preparation for the exam too!), technical presentation, and coverage of key areas of content (i.e. subject knowledge, again useful for the exam). This will be provided electronically (in case you have gone home for the Easter holidays). Maximum length is 750 words.

Formative Feedback (First Half) Assignment Topic (ie Topics for Phase 1 of the final assignment): Complete ONE of the following

1- Discuss the integration - responsiveness framework and explain how the pressures for local responsiveness and pressures for global integration determine the firm’s strategy.
2- Porter Diamond advocates that there are inherent reasons why some nations are more competitive in certain industries than others. Critically examine the usefulness of Porter Diamond model in today’s global business environment.

3- What organizational structures are used to implement the international, multi-domestic, global and transnational strategies? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each structure? Use examples

You will be provided with formal feedback by way of a grade only. You cannot ask for, or be given, a mark for this piece of work; the rules and regulations of the University do not permit us to do so. (You will receive an overall grade for this module only after the meeting of the Board of Examiners; the Board meets only once a year, in July.) This feedback will be given to you within twenty-five working days of the deadline, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the School (which apply to all items of coursework, regardless of module or level). Although your work will not be returned to you, you may like to discuss your skills and abilities further. If so, then you should arrange a meeting with the seminar leader (or the module leader if your seminar leader is not available). If you wish to discuss the actual work (or, in the case of Task 1, your performance) itself, you will need to bring along a copy of your coursework (you should always keep a copy of all work; we expect students, especially in this discipline, to keep accurate and full records!). You should note that your seminar leader will not be permitted to tell you what marks were awarded for each section, or the final mark given for this item of coursework. However, discussing your work in detail, via a one-to-one meeting,…

Assignment requirements Candidates must successfully complete all parts of an assignment to a satisfactory and appropriate standard in order to gain a pass for that assignment. The assignments have been designed to assess the ability of candidates to cover a range of issues associated with a given unit. Consequently, it is not appropriate for parts of any assignment to be omitted, submitted incomplete or of an unsatisfactory standard. All assignments must be completed and assessed within the candidate’s period of registration. It is up to centres to decide how long they give candidates to complete their assignments, and this may vary from one unit to another. Tutors/assessors are reminded of their responsibility to provide written feedback to candidates regarding their assignments and of the fact that candidates should not be encouraged to submit work for final assessment until it is complete and to the appropriate standard for the task. Bearing in mind the above responsibility which lies with centres, candidates will normally have two opportunities to submit each individual assignment. Candidates who fail any task should not resubmit work within one week of receiving their result. Centres must provide precise written feedback and where necessary, further learning opportunities to maximise the candidate’s potential to succeed on their second attempt. Candidates must have achieved the minimum marks indicated for each question in the short answer question element. Should the candidate not meet the minimum marks indicated, their second opportunity should take the format of a professional discussion. Guidance on this is provided in the Assignment Guidance. Learners may choose to word process their answers. Assessors may guide learners in the length of their responses. They should use the marking guidance as a rough indication of what should be covered, and use the space…

Formative assessment is where a focus on monitoring the learner’s progress and response to instruction is taken place. This will allow me to observe the learners progress and then give feedback to the learner starting with positive first leading into the more negative feedback where I can then give information derived from the assessment to help improve the next time. Feedback is key and can be given in writing or oral. Learners can also do self assessments to reflect and monitor their progress.…

The formative assessment is the purpose used as feedback to improve the proves of learning when this generally happens during the learning process for example in the classroom an educator assesses a team exercise and intervenes after discovering that some member are being left out, and to make the team functions are better. The teacher marks a piece of work and gives a comment and advice; the child may rewrite the piece of work in response to the teacher’s comments. Teacher’s then use summaries to measure the learning that has taken place though feedback is often in a form of a report to a third party e.g. the head of department or parent. This generally tends to be the final assessment after the learning process and is normally linked to rewards (pass or fails). In the classroom teachers do exam papers end of the year, to see what they remember, the work they have done all through that year. Formative assessment is as much a part of learning as it is part of assessment and the dialogue between the teacher and the learner that takes place during various forms of formative assessment is a vital part of the learning process.…

All MNE’s have strategic dispositions that influence their decisions. Of the four major categories (see appendix), Spin’s expansion into the USA involves a regiocentric orientation. This type of orientation reflects the company’s basic mission for both public acceptance and profitability, while maintaining regional values and utilizing flexible manufacturing. Governance is negotiated between regions and subsidiaries, and connected to the product organization with a matrix-structure. The regiocentric approach combines both ethnocentric and polycentric strategies, but maintains the ability to address both local and regional needs.…

Strategies in a global setting involves competition in industries that extends across national boundaries and firms with different national bases that may tap into strategic resources in more than one location. The frameworks for global strategic analysis at four levels are the geographic scope of the industry , the competitiveness of various locations , the geographic reach of the firm and the global integration vs. local focus of specific activities . The sustainable growth of the country depends mainly on the quality of a country‘s institutions. Without well-functioning institutions, education and training policies are less effective and factor markets cannot function efficiently.…
