The sight of cascading streams of Jhelum and Indus rivers along the roads of Kashmir is mesmerising and the sound of gushing waters soothing. Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, is situated on the bank of Jhelum River. The city is home to the famous Dal Lake, where you can spot and enjoy the ride of canopied Shikara boats. The floating vegetable market, lavish houseboats, bountiful flora and fauna, Char Chinars, Nishat and Shalimar Baghs bring alive a ravishing picture of Srinagar. Adding to the city’s blissfulness are the Hazaratbal Shrine, Jama Masjid and Shankracharya Temple.

    Behind Mud Walls Paper

In order to understand India, one needs to understand its villages. Behind Mud Walls does a great job in providing a detailed background of an ordinary village life in India. Since seventy percent of Indians live in villages, it is important to learn about village lifestyle and the changes that take place in it. Only then one can learn about the cities because one needs to understand the relationship between the two in India. Behind Mud Walls provides the opportunity to examine a north Indian village from a non-Indian point of view; in other words, a non-biased point of view. Since the book is broken up into parts by years, it gives the reader a great way to examine the changes that take place in this village; it shows how it was then and how it is now. Karimpur in 1930 was very different from Karimpur in the 80’s and 90’s. Many changes were observed by Wisers and Susan Wadley, who writes the later chapters in the book. These changes were social, economic, educational, technological, political and cultural but most significant of these were social, and educational. The social changes with an emphasis on role of women, the slowing down of the Jajmani system and the rise in education will be the focus of this paper.…

Polonius is much like that of Simon. Just like Simon, who finds out what the beast really is, Polonius listens in on Hamlet talking to his mother and figures out the truth about why Hamlet is really upset. Because he discovered this very much needed piece of information he is tragically killed by Hamlet. Just like Simon is killed by the group of boys before he even gets the chance to tell anyone about what he had discovered. Between the books of Shakespeare’s play Hamlet and Golding's novel Lord of the Flies there are a variety of connections between the two books that correlate to each other. One relation is the small, restricted location that the stories take place in. In Hamlet it happens to be the castle, in Lord of the Flies it is the island. At these locations is where all of the weirdness begins to spill out of the cup. For example: murder, betrayal, and the insanity of the characters.…

Pilgrimage to a sacred place as an act of religious devotion is an age-old tradition, followed by religions all over the world. The fact that it is often carried out on foot, is an older form and has many religious connotations, has made people overlook it as a form of tourism. Apart from the devotional aspect, looked at from the broader point of view, pilgrimage involves, sightseeing, travelling, visiting different places and, in some cases, voyaging by air or sea etc. and buying the local memorabilia, almost everything a tourist does. If a difference does exist it is in the fact that, despite having been undertaken for centuries, it has not had the same negative environmental, cultural and social ramifications that tourism has shown itself capable of in the last 30 years alone. Also, as in other types of tourism, tourist traffic to a destination can be created by changes in access or demands for new activities. Today the Buddhist and Jain shrines in remote parts of India have seen huge increases in visits as they become more accessible. Until the 1960s hardly anybody visited Lumbini (birthplace of Buddha) near the Chitwan Royal National Park, in Nepal near the Indian border. A renewed interest in Buddhism all over the world, easy road access to Lumbini and the added attraction of the National Park, which has been declared a world heritage site, has made all the difference. Lumbini is now a popular destination. Similarly, in the past, the major pilgrimage centres did not just provide food and accommodation and spiritual succour for the pilgrims. They were great centres of art and culture and, in the case of major centres, still are. The Himalayan region of Uttar Pradesh in India has developed a special Pahari cuisine, school of music, Pahari school of miniature painting,…

    Letter K

The letter K comes from the letter Κ (kappa), which was taken from the Semitic kap, the symbol for an open hand.[2] This, in turn, was likely adapted by Semites who had lived in Egypt from the hieroglyph for "hand" representing D in the Egyptian word for hand, d-r-t. The Semites evidently assigned it the sound value /k/ instead, because their word for hand started with that sound.[3] In modern-day English slang, the word "k" is used as a substitute for the abbreviation "O.K.", or "Okay." In International Morse code it is used to mean "over".[4]…
