In John F. Kennedy's speech, his use of statistics is used to emphasize the effects of rising the steel prices in America to argue his purpose of saying Americans do not have sufficient funds to support the new price.He starts off by saying" increasing steel prices by some 6 dollars a ton , constitute a wholly unjustifiable and irresponsible defiance of the public interests" (lin.3). Kennedy utilizes this statistic in order to point out that the rising of the steel prices is out of public interest , for it is only beneficial for the steel companies to make a bigger profit for their own selfish reasons. He does this to imbue them with anger to make them go against steel companies.His choice of word such as unjustifiable and irresponsible are used to instill the steel company executives with guilt for their ignorance toward the public interest.He uses this language to ultimately in a way persuade executives to lower their prices by making them feel responsible for their actions
