WWWWWWWWWs. She discovered the helical structure of DNA has two strands. She was missing an important piece to her structure. The missing piece was how the bases paired on the inside of the helix, and the secret of heredity itself (Ardell 1). Watson and Crick were left to find out the missing piece.
Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin were partners in
finding the structure of DNA. Wilkins and Franklin weren’t close and kept their work separate. Wilkins examined Franklin’s DNA structure from one of her x-ray diffraction photos. Without Franklin knowing, Wilkins showed Watson and Crick the photos. Then, Watson and Crick used her ideas in DNA, and became a big success (“The Rosalind Franklin Papers” 1).
Franklin did not know that Watson and Crick had used the x-ray diffarction photos. Watson and Crick were independently working on the structure of DNA. The photos that Franklin had discov3rqtttttttttttWWWWWWWWWWWWW
red, were the scientific evidence Watson and Crick needed to prove that the DNA molecule was a double-stranded helix (Lewis 1). Watson and Crick did not acknowledge their debt to her work when they published their announcement in the news. Later, Crick admitted that Franklin was two steps away from discovering the correct structure of DNA (The Rosalind Franklin Papers” 1)
