One of the reasons why Henry broke from the Roman Church was because he needed money. The break from Rome also meant that the taxes that had previously been paid to the Church in Rome would go to Henry instead and, after the break, he sacked the Catholic monasteries of their gold and removed the Church's land making him even richer, If he took over the church all of its treasury would be his. The monasteries were very rich and owned about a quarter of the land in the country, so he closed down the monasteries, took their money and sold all of the land. It was not about a divorce, an unlikely idea, but about an annulment (an invalid marriage). Henry, a Catholic King, wanted an annulment from his wife and in those days they would have to approach the Bishop of Rome and his Court and attain one from that source at a very great cost. This Henry did, paying out his money to the Roman Court. Henry had spent all his late fathers (King Henry VII) money on expensive wars with France; he could not afford his big parties he was famous for. Henry needed the money for power so that he could then build a stronger army and fight more wars. This would then show that he was a powerful king. Money is not the most important reason but it is an important reason.…
In 1534 England was ruled by King Henry VIII. “He ruled for 36 years during this time he married six different wives all to gain more political power.”[1] Two of his marriages ended in annulment, two from natural deaths, and the others from beheadings. What upset a lot of people from the Church of England is the fact that he wanted to annul his first marriage without receiving approval from the pope.…

Fundamental religious orientation in Europe was primarily and predominately the Roman Catholic Church, until a German Roman Catholic monk, Martin Luther, nailed his written, 95 Theses on the door of the castle church in Willenberg Germany, in 1517. This began the Protestant Reformation. Another Protestant Church break-away from the Roman Catholic Church began when King Henry VIII of England persuaded the Parliament of his country to pass the Act of Supremacy, making him the head of the Church of England. Originally, King Henry VIII was Roman Catholic, until he wanted to divorce his wife Catherine. Pope Clement VII refused to grant him a divorce, so with his new power as the head of the Church of England granted, King Henry VIII divorced his wife using his own authority. Pope Clement VII excommunicated King Henry VII from the Catholic Church. In 1534, the Church of England became the official.…
It is thought that Anne was pregnant with Henry’s child at this point. Henry and Catherine were still officially married, but Archbishop Cranmer proclaimed the marriage to be null and void. Henry’s desire to annul the marriage between himself and Catherine in order to marry Anne, led to the break with Rome. Anne gave birth to a daughter, Elizabeth, on August 26th 1533. Anne Boleyn fell pregnant again in 1534 but it either ended in miscarriage or the child being stillborn. In 1535 Anne suffered a miscarriage. King Henry VIII desperately desired a male heir and he started to spend time with one of Anne’s ladies-in-waiting, Jane…
A first reason why henry viii broke from Rome was religion. You know this because he wanted to change the Catholic Church to protestant and he also thought that the Catholic Church was corrupt so he thought if he was head if the church it wouldn’t be. Henry viii didn’t like the way that Catholics could pay to have their sins removed. Therefore religion made henry viii break with Rome because if he was made head of the church he could say that only god could remove their sins he could also change the way the church was run so maybe it wouldn’t be corrupt.…

King Henry VIII was a man known for being girl crazy, he seemed like he would want a new girl everyday. In a way he loved girls, but had no feelings for them. According to Lord Mountjoy to Erasmus, 1509 “He used to marry a new wife every day, and chop off her head next morning.”(Lord Mountjoy to Erasmus, 1509) He had been married six times; divorced four times, and beheaded two of them. He was the reason of getting rid of the pope’s power in England, because of the very reason of wanting to get a divorce. He was a relentless tyrant that wanted virtue, glory and immortality.…
Anne Boleyn introduced Henry to some religious texts that undermined the power of the pope. These texts demonstrated that the king should be head of the church of his country, which helped lead to the idea of breaking away / controlling the church. She believed that Henry should make decisions and not have to bow down to Rome.…
He also achieved stability by divorcing his current, infertile wife, Catherine of Aragon, who would not grant him a Catholic annulment or give him a male heir, which left questions as to what would occur in the event of Henry’s death. When he broke from the Catholic Church, Henry was able annul his marriage to her and find new, young, fecund wives who would be able to provide him with the crucial male heirs needed for his family’s stability. His marriages after his break are obvious evidence of his attempts to politically strengthen his family’s…

To six wives he was wedded, one died, one survived, two divorced, and two beheaded. This is the timeline of Henry VIII’s six wives. Henry VIII was a king who was known for marrying six different times. Each time he got married, something bad would happen to his wife. Therefore, when his name is mentioned, a negative connotation is felt, but this should not be the case. Henry was very religious, and “In 1521 he wrote a pamphlet attacking Martin Luther and his teachings...” (Beck, 431). At the time Martin Luther was against the pope and his teachings, so Henry was rewarded by the Pope for writing against Martin Luther. This shows Henry’s commitment and well-being. Henry should not be blamed for…
