The protagonist in “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” is Mr. Shiftlet. This man encounters an older woman and her daughter; both named Lucynell Crater. Their first conversation is very awkward, but the reader can interpret the characters. Mr. Shiftlet is a one armed man who left home at a young age. Lucynell (mother) is an older widowed woman who is independent and protective of her daughter. The younger Lucynell (daughter) is a deaf girl with a mental handicap. She is intrigued by a man working around the house and follows him around all day. He seems to be a respectful man to these ladies, but he is in need of validation that there is some good in this world. Mr. Shiftlet could have used Mrs. Crater’s hospitality and marriage proposal as a chance for him to change his outlook on the world, but he has alternative motives. He develops this strong misanthropic view of the world after he leaves his mother as a child, and he now has the chance to find grace and a new life with Mrs. Lucynell Crater's offer.…

For me the greatest knowledge and skills gain was in learning about and conducting the Life Review. I was able to take acquired knowledge in the area of physcosocial development and apply the knowledge. By reading Harder, A (2012) senthesiszed review of Erikson’s developmental stages, I was able to apply the stages of development to my subject in the life review. Addionally, by using Butler’s description of a Life Review is was able to gain greater insight into the differenct between simple reminishing and a true Life Rivew. Butler (2002) indicates they differences between simple reminiscing and a Life Review is that in the Life Reivew a person who comes to the end of their live and they try to make sense of their life and they try to resolve…
I'm a seventeen year old African American Christian girl, who has no idea what she going to be in life. When I was ten years old my mother, Candyce Brockington, died from cancer. While she was alive, I swore I would become a doctor and cure cancer. After she died, I didn't know who I was, let alone who I wanted to become. Completely lost and confused, my main focus became my studies, not because I enjoyed it, but because it keep me focus on the big picture, college. When my mother was still alive the most important thing she wanted was for her kids to go college and live a wonderful and happy life. When we, my siblings and I, were children we played all the sports and joined all the clubs, not for amusement, even though I did have fun, but…
This quote is implying/means that although everybody goes through similar coming of age experiences, such as; relationships, peer pressure and maturity, they react differently which gives them their own identity. Relationships are an important coming of age experience in the novel ‘Touch Me’ by James Moloney and the film ‘Ten Things I Hate About You’ directed by Gil Junger.…
“WHOA WHOA WHOA THIS IS BALONEY MAN!” that is something I say whenever I am frustrated. People have always told me sometimes the best way to learn something is through failure. People value things they have accomplished differently. Often the people whom are naturally adept at things do not realize how much of a struggle it can be for others. Many times when people have told me that if you are going to fall, fall forward. Do not let your insecurities, doubts, and pride get in the way of improving yourself. In brief, there can always be a way to improve yourself.…

The Harry Potter obsession is fueled by the charismatic characters and the ultimate fantasy that is colorfully painted throughout the novel. Children become hypnotized by the magic spells, the amazing conjuring of potions, the exciting adventures and creatures that could only be found in the deep realms of your mind. This is frightening to some, especially the crazy bible-thumping Christians, Radical Muslims, and crazy parents who are completely blind to the development in today’s youth. These are just a few examples of groups who disagree with this book. But why? Exactly what I said above, They believe that these books provide some sort of brainwashing method embedded deep within the pages of this book. They are afraid that children will convert to some of these “Witch-Craft” techniques and “rituals” which are commonly mentioned throughout the novels. Understandably, parents dislike the violence and death that is plagued though out the novel, but that adds a key element to the book, suspense and excitement.…
I never imagined that one little, tiny human could change my life. I know they say that the second you see your child, you’ll experience a love that you’ll have experienced before. Although I didn’t have a child, the birth of my little sister sure allowed me to experience this love. At the ripe age of 13, I was beyond excited for my mom to have a baby. While I already had two siblings, they were closer to me in age. I was finally going to be able to take care of a baby, and there was nothing that I was more excited about.…
Throughout the past year I have endured several life changing occurances. One of my family members troubled through the treturous stages of cancer and unfortunately has passed at this time. If I have taken anything away from this, it is that family is the most important resource in a persons life. Without those people who tell you that you can, regardless of the circumstances, becoming succesful could be very challenging. After clearing my head, I was able to start thinking of a career choice that would make me enjoy going to work. I encountered an opening at a local CVS/Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and applied. After being hired, I immediately fell in love with the surroundings, the people, the patient interaction, and the knowledge…
There were many people in my life who have helped me to becoming who I am today. In the novels Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte they both conform to the quote, “Character, not circumstance, makes the person.” This was once written by Booker T. Washington. Circumstances shouldn’t effect who you are as a person. Both Lizzy from Pride and Prejudice and Catherine from Wuthering Heights show that within the Circumstances it didn’t effect their character. With the use of characterization and theme both of the novels portray how Lizzy’s and Cathy’s character wasn’t effected under any circumstances.…
We are never promised the honor to live the next day; we are never guaranteed tomorrow. You can not live regretting your decisions. You must live in the moment or the moment is wasted. The one you love more than words could describe could be gone tomorrow; the reason they are gone could get locked up. Lose focus and look away, what you turned to see can be the last thing you saw before you life flashes before your eyes. Your next breath you take in could be your last. We all realize these things at our own pace; we all have experiences that open our eyes to reality; mine were all crammed into one dramatic week. “Everything happens for a reason, but I think it's important to seek out that reason - that's how we learn” as said…
The foundation of your personal worldview is very simple. You as a person believe what you believe because that’s how you were taught. No one makes you believe what you believe; we all have a choice.…
