The Famous three book trilogy of “The Lord of The Rings” is among the most famous and favorite trilogies in the history of modern literature. A trilogy like this that could make arguments against “Star Wars” as being the greatest trilogy of modern time must have been written by a mastermind, and it was. The author J.R Tolkien is an incredible writer, but, could any one person create such a masterpiece with nothing to base it on? Perhaps, but not likely. Many people believe that Tolkien used a book that is historically the best seller, most famous, and one of the oldest that is still sold, the Christian book “The Bible”. While people read the Lord of the Rings books, it has them questioning if Tolkien did use the bible to write the Lord of the Rings. Some Parts of the book is identical to the bible while others are questionable. Could characters such as Gandalf be based on biblical characters such as Jesus? One of the most famous characters in The Lord of The Rings is the wizard Gandalf. Gandalf is called the bringer of light, he uses his magical powers to destroy evil, and of course his personality is calm, pure, and hard to anger. This character sounds almost identical to the Christian icon Jesus. The similarities don’t stop between the Two either. In Tolkien’s first book “The Fellowship of The Ring”, Gandalf and his companions take a short cut on their way to Mordor through The Mines of Moria. While going through the mines Gandalf and his group is attacked by a “Balrog”(Tolkien), which is a large fiery demonic creature. Gandalf stands up before the Balrog to save his people and Sais the famous words “You Shall not pass!” (Tolkien), then slams his mighty staff down and the two fall to their death. Gandalf is also tortured by the evil wizard Sauromon because he will not give in and join Sauron’s side. In the Bible the book John, Jesus is tortured and then put to his death for his people
