Love in Mid Summer Night's Dream Essay Example

Love Love is one of the most difficult mysteries of life. The difficulty of love is shown throughout A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In the play, the characters have to deal with jealousy that comes along with being in love. Love’s difficulty in the play comes from love being out of balance. Love being out of balance is a romantic situation where a difference gets in the way of happiness in the relationship. William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream demonstrates these conflicts with a little bit of humor and buoyancy. The four young Athenians have many difficulties with love. Hermia loves Lysander and Lysander returns the feelings; Helena loves Demetrius but Demetrius loves Hermia. The two men love the same women, which leaves Hermia with no one. “The course of true love never did run smooth (Shakespeare).” Love is sometimes fast, short and brief. Love does not care about class difference or age difference. Helena keeps throwing herself at Demetrius, but the more she throws herself at him the more he hates her. Helena cannot seem to figure out why that is though. She is as beautiful and wealthy as Hermia. Helena becomes jealous because she wants Demetrius and cannot have him. “Feelings of jealousy always appear to stem from ones sense that something about their life is not secure (Bowes).” Out of jealousy, Helena decides to tell Demetrius that Hermia and Lysander play to run away to the woods so he will follow them. Lester 2 follows him also. The problems that arise from Demetrius’ changeable love stirred jealousy and hurt in Helena. Oberon, who is the king of the fairies, ordered his servant puck to use love juice on Demetrius’ eyes so he would love Helena. Puck thought Lysander was Demetrius, causing both Lysander and Demetrius to fall in love with Helena. Helena though they were mocking her and became mad. Lovers are altered and translated to fools. Oberon and Titania become jealous and blind in love. Oberon made an irresponsible decision to
